SPARTANBURG, S.C. Newt Gingrich signaled Wednesday that he believes his criticism of Mitt Romneys record at Bain Capital is a mistake and that hes created an impression that he was echoing Democratic rhetoric.
Gingrich conceded the problem when pressed by a Rick Santorum supporter at a book-signing here Wednesday.
Im here to implore one thing of you. I think youve missed the target on the way youre addressing Romneys weaknesses. I want to beg you to redirect and go after his obvious disingenuous about his conservatism and lay off the corporatist versus the free market. I think its nuanced, Dean Glossop, an Army Reservist from Inman, S.C., said.

Geeh, New validates my opinion for which I was decorated yesterday.
Thanks Newt for seeing the light on this.
Let your inferiors continue this meme.
Newt’s closing the barn door after the horses have already escaped.
Wise advice and wise decision.
"Gingrich said.
Its an impossible theme to talk about with Obama in the background. Obama just makes it impossible to talk rationally in that area because he is so deeply into class warfare that automatically you get an echo effect.
I agree with you entirely. "
This is what I like about Newt. His ability to admit a wrong tactic and change course. I think we will see something new in South Carolina as he refines his campaign. GO NEWT!
I think it was a brilliant move by Newt, he is showing EXACTLY what a MSM attack on Romney would look like should Mittens get the Nom.
He keeps making me sad.
This is what I dislike about him...he shoots his mouth off too often.
Just noticed the movie has been released, so now Newts taking it back.
Good grief, typical Newt
He needs to look before he leaps.
Newt wouldn’t have to admit so many wrong tactics if he wasn’t wrong so often.
Actually, that’s not what Gingrich said. He basically said that his attack had been misunderstood and twisted into anti-capitalism because of Obama’s class warfare rhetoric going on in the background. But he said that Romney has to explain himself, and that was all he was calling for all along.
Romney has been portraying himself as a businessman and implying that he ran a productive business, but he was not honest about the type of business and the type of investments (it was not “venture capital” except in the most general of senses) and the fact that he got a government bailout for at least one investment that went bad.
Bain bought one firm for $30 million and immediately forced the firm to give Bain a “payout” of $180 million, which was all the cash it had. Essentially, Bain bought it just to strip it of cash. I fail to see that this is investing in growth or, at any rate, the growth of anything except Romney’s bank account.
Don’t feel bad I was roasted yesterday for saying Newt crossed the line too. Unfortunately Romney is now going to get a big bump as he graciously accepts Newt apology while simultaneously playing the victim card. Newt is toast, he was toast when he attacked from the left, he should have gone down fighting. I wonder if newt gave Perry a heads up?
I have 3 posts from yesterday and today stating that I was disappointed with Newt’s attack but sticking with him. Feeling a bit of vindication here. Go NEWT!
Once again, Rick Perry is the only candidate standing by his statements — even in the face of an attack Jan. 10 from Romney/Santorum lover Sean Hannity.
“Unfortunately Romney is now going to get a big bump as he graciously accepts Newt apology while simultaneously playing the victim card”
Unfortunately for Romney is he said his role at Bain Capitol was similar to Obama taking over GM and Chrysler. Mitt stepped in it big time by using Obama for cover. I would bet Newt will use that against Mitt using Mitt’s own words. GO NEWT!
the gutless newt who only looks out for newt peeks out yet again...cry or fight..say it or dont..stay or resign...newt come on...grow a pair
