A 20-year-old Cranston man faces a felony charge of carrying a pistol without a permit and weapons violations after police discovered a loaded Glock .40 caliber pistol in his glove compartment at a crash scene.
Nicholas Desjarlais, of 29 Seminole Trail, Cranston, was also charged with reckless driving for the Dec. 31 incident. He was taken into police custody after an accident at the intersection of Sockanossett Cross Road and Pontiac Avenue involving injuries, police said.
Police said they found a folding Smith and Wesson pocketknife in Desjarlais' pocket and the Glock Model 22 handgun was found in his car's glove compartment. The .40 caliber gun was loaded with 13 rounds of hollow point ammunition, police said.

Not sure if there is some kind of "problem" with the folding pocket knife or not.

Glocks have clips that enable you to load them or unload them in an instant. And they do not have safeties; the holster functions as your safety. A loaded, unholstered Glock is not necessarily certain doom; they are built well to not go off accidentally, but they are also built to be unloaded or holstered.
Rhode Island.... It took me to get to the page, and search to figure out where this “Cranston” was.... I guess the gun laws there are much different than in Vermont.
And 13 of them. Think of the horrific damage he could have done in California, Hawaii, Massachusettes, New York, and Illinois.
Reckless driving is a crime. Police have the authority to investigate a crime scene. Was the perpetrator high? Drunk? Indisposed? OTOH, while I previously noted that a Glock should be holstered or unloaded, I doubt that R.I.’s gun laws are weapon-specific, so maybe there are gun-rights issues at play here.
M1 rifles have clips.

The gun was not even fully loaded. I have a Glock 22 and they hold 15 in mag.

Glock doesn’t agree with you. They say the “safe action” trigger design has “three internal safeties”.

This was reported to be a Glock 22, which takes a 15-round magazine. Police found 13 rounds loaded, so it’s not clear there was even a round in the chamber. The chance of an accidental discharge with an empty chamber is essentially zero, holster or no.
I wouldn’t personally carry a Glock with a round in the chamber, but I have no problems with a full magazine and an empty chamber.
Apparently in RI they are clips. Not all that gun savvy up there.

Can’t defend the kid carrying a firearm without a permit (Agree or not, it’s the law in R.I. right now), much less his reckless driving. But these journalists crack me up.

Good thing he didn't have any of those 'dum-dum' bullets that are banned by the Geneva Convention. Even the Taliban have the decency not to use those. Hollow points are bad enough, but the illegal dum-dum bullets are banned in every state except Texas where they all come from.
I blame the NRA for all these lawsuits making Americans think that they can own guns.
There should be a law making guns harder to load, too.

Wow it’s a felony to carry a loaded weapon in RI? I thought we were ridiculous in California, but it’s only a misdemeanor here. So if your worried about protecting yourself, leave it loaded and tucked under the seat, and risk the fine.
