Attorneys call videos ‘sickening’

Lawyers for the man known as the "20th hijacker" of 9/11 are suing the U.S. government to release "sickening" videotapes they say show Guantanamo Bay interrogators torturing their client.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Federal Court on Monday by the Center for Constitutional Rights, said Mohammed Al-Qahtani was a victim “of torture and other profoundly cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment."

"The American public should now be permitted to see what occurred for itself," the lawsuit said.

Between 2002 and 2003, Al-Qahtani suffered through marathon interrogation sessions and was subjected to severe temperatures, sleep deprivation and other "sexual and moral" humiliations, the suit said.

...snip...

According to prison logs published by Time magazine in 2005, he also suffered months of isolation, was menaced by attack dogs, stripped naked, doused with water and forced to listen to blaring Christina Aguilera music.

What's wrong with Christina Aguilera? Seems to me his lawyers concerns should be about the "usefullness" of the tapes to their terrorist client in the courtroom, not making tapes public.

To all that Mark Levin said last night about Bush II, should be added the insanity of permitting lawyers and criminal proceedings for people who have declared war upon the United States.

isolation and loud music is not torture, scaring people with dogs and taking their clothes is also not torture. Torture is pulling out people’s fingernails, electric schocks, cutting out their tongues, hanging them by hooks, beating on them, breaking their bones one by one, all stuff the Taliban and al Quaida actually did and do. In my book, waterboarding is torture, but showing people sickening insects and this other dumb stuff above (the loud music, no sleep etc)is not torture.

The big point is, this stuff won’t get you reliable info either, that’s why confessions elicited by same aren’t admissible in court. So, take their weapons and maps, speed them to the rear and isolate them so they can’t plan with their buddies is about the most you can do. Question them, yes, but use psychological pressure, like “Your buds already told us, they said you planned the whole thing.”

This other stuff is just a waste of time money and personnel

Our enemies must be laughing their asses off at our abject stupidity. Prisoners in muslim jails would thank allah to be subject to our brand of ‘torture’ rather than the muslim kind.

The horrors of the victims of 9-11 can’t make their claims. They are dead. Killed by the Muslims. Or forced to jump out of burning buildings.

“The big point is, this stuff won’t get you reliable info either, that’s why confessions elicited by same aren’t admissible in court.”

That’s the mantra the (liberal) media has fed us. Reality is slightly different: this stuff will get you both reliable and unreliable info. The second part is why it is inadmissible. But from a military perspective, if you have multiple sources, you can correlate the info to weed out the bad info.

So while it is useless in a criminal setting, it can be very useful in a military one. That’s why it is done.

I don’t care about what little reliable info we get from it. I am not into waterboarding and think the US should be better than that.

And you are willing to see soldiers die - sometimes in large numbers - just to be “better than that”?

War is nasty. We didn’t pick this fight. The onus is on those who did - and continue to.

Two more points:

(1) How do you know it is “little” reliable info?

(2) The best way to make a war short is to fight it as brutally and effectively as possible, ultimately saving many of the other side’s soldiers lives too.

Your morality comes at a high price in blood - theirs and ours.

Tapes are “G” rated compared to what we’d LIKE to see.

“Al-Qahtani suffered through marathon interrogation sessions and was subjected to severe temperatures, sleep deprivation and other “sexual and moral” humiliations’

Substitute “study” for interrogation, picture the typical housing available to college students, and you have the same conditions experienced by your typical college student in USA. LOL

nope nope

the object is not to fight as dirty as possible, the object is to fight as smart as possible.
