The Sea Shepherd anti-whaling group said three Australian activists were being held as "prisoners" by the Japanese harpoon fleet Sunday after sneaking aboard one of their vessels overnight to protest.
Sea Shepherd said they had helped the three men from the Forest Rescue Australia environmental group to board the Shonan Maru No.2 16 miles (26 kilometres) off Australia's west coast.
"The boats approached the Shonan Maru under the cover of darkness and the three negotiated their way past the razor wire and spikes and over the rails to successfully board the Japanese whaling vessel," Sea Shepherd said of the Forest Rescue trio.
They were now "being held as prisoners on board the Japanese vessel the Shonan Maru No. 2" which had been tailing the Sea Shepherd ship the Steve Irwin and contained "armed Japanese military personnel," Sea Shepherd claimed.
In statement Forest Rescue said it wanted to prevent the Shonan Maru from following the Steve Irwin back to the Southern Ocean.
The Steve Irwin had to return to Australia last week because another Sea Shepherd ship, the Brigitte Bardot, was damaged in high seas and had to be escorted home for repairs, setting back the group's annual hunt of the whalers.
Forest Rescue said it was "making a stand to assist Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in their campaign to end illegal whale poaching in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary."
"We are taking this action to remind the Australian government of their obligation to enforce existing laws pertaining to the prohibition of whaling ships in our waters," the group added.
"Forest Rescue are insulted and disappointed in our government for allowing the transit of whale poaching vessels in Australian waters."
The group has demanded that the Japanese return the three men -- Simon Peterffy, 44, Geoffrey Tuxworth, 47 and Glen Pendlebury,

forcing your way onto a vessel is piracy... hell, even the coast guard or sheriff has to ask your permission to board your vessel....(if you did not ask for and receive permission to board, you have forced your way aboard)
I came to your conclusion years ago... do you beleive all republicans are conservatives? Of course not.... so, come over to the dark side, and try on a small l libertarian(not a big L nutcase like ron paul)....another word for us is strict constitutionalists.....
you can protest in public areas... in some countries... but in VERY few countries, ie: NONE, do you have ANY right to enter private property without permission and start ‘protesting’ via sabotage
if someone walked into your home to rip up your bible or tear your tv from the wall.. you’d be within your rights to shoot them
toss the hippies overboard... from the bow of the ship
*Maybe* the solution to Japanese Whaling is to send in MooseHell and have her give those 'backward little people' a good talking to about their diets.
Now looky here shorty. You'ze better stop eating Whale meat and eat things like Tofu Steaks and Arugula Salads instead. If you don't, I'll have Barry send over our Food Nazi, Mikey Bloomberg to run your little backward country. No offense meant to the Japanese. But Whaling isn't exactly a good thing either. And trust me Yashimoto, you'ze won't like him one bit. 'Cause not only will he outlaw Whale Meat he'll make you stop eating Blowfish. That Fugu stuff can kill y'all and Mikey don't likez tings likez dat. Oh and eyez hopes you'ze all don't like salt 'cause Mikey sure don't.
Now you little people behave and get me my triple decker Chocolate Sundae.
And DON'T skimp on the whipped cream!
ps: I'm channeling Moochie's 'I'm better than everyone' attitude and what she likely says behind closed doors about all those who aren't 'her kind'.
What makes stupid folk so stupid (and entertaining) is they are too stupid to know it...

I hear ya. I’ve no love for the whalers, but I despise the pirates.
Gotten awfully quiet, hasn’t he?
Walk the plank, Maties.
Arrrrr.
The Japanese have no obligation to terminate their voyage to return these stowaways to Australia. They can remain aboard under detention (but not arrest) until the ship finishes its voyage and returns to Japan. They may face criminal charges in Japan; the Japanese whalers have no obligation to them.
Corpus Delecti?
If they can present no bodies, what proof is there the alleged boarders exist, much less surreptitiously board the whaler. There is no crime if the there are no presentable bodies.
There should be DNA searches of all the disposed whale residue to check for human hamburger in the debris
Sloppy words and sloppy thinking often go together, both in the mobs and in the media that are covering them. It is common, for example, to hear in the media how some "protesters" were arrested. But anyone who reads this column regularly knows that I protest against all sorts of things -- and don't get arrested.
The difference is that I don't block traffic, join mobs sleeping overnight in parks or urinate in the street. If the media cannot distinguish between protesting and disturbing the peace, then their education may also have wasted a lot of taxpayers' money.
Yes, my tax money has been wasted.
Arrg!
Make ‘em walk the plank....
Worst. Sailors. Ever.
I believe that Paul Watson is wanted in Norway though and might owe some jail time. That’s why they stay out of the North Atlantic.
I am for sending them to a Japanese prison and sucking their finances with court fees until they are bled dry. Execution would only make them martyrs for the cause. Draining their bank account would put a serious damper this foolishness.
A possible side effect would be democrat donors giving to these idiots rather than The One. Every dollar helps.
