Activists board Japanese whaling ship

The Sea Shepherd anti-whaling group said three Australian activists were being held as "prisoners" by the Japanese harpoon fleet Sunday after sneaking aboard one of their vessels overnight to protest.

Sea Shepherd said they had helped the three men from the Forest Rescue Australia environmental group to board the Shonan Maru No.2 16 miles (26 kilometres) off Australia's west coast.

"The boats approached the Shonan Maru under the cover of darkness and the three negotiated their way past the razor wire and spikes and over the rails to successfully board the Japanese whaling vessel," Sea Shepherd said of the Forest Rescue trio.

They were now "being held as prisoners on board the Japanese vessel the Shonan Maru No. 2" which had been tailing the Sea Shepherd ship the Steve Irwin and contained "armed Japanese military personnel," Sea Shepherd claimed.

In statement Forest Rescue said it wanted to prevent the Shonan Maru from following the Steve Irwin back to the Southern Ocean.

The Steve Irwin had to return to Australia last week because another Sea Shepherd ship, the Brigitte Bardot, was damaged in high seas and had to be escorted home for repairs, setting back the group's annual hunt of the whalers.

Forest Rescue said it was "making a stand to assist Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in their campaign to end illegal whale poaching in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary."

"We are taking this action to remind the Australian government of their obligation to enforce existing laws pertaining to the prohibition of whaling ships in our waters," the group added.

"Forest Rescue are insulted and disappointed in our government for allowing the transit of whale poaching vessels in Australian waters."

The group has demanded that the Japanese return the three men -- Simon Peterffy, 44, Geoffrey Tuxworth, 47 and Glen Pendlebury,

When I hear the word "successful" or "successfully", the first thing that comes to mind is boarding a Japanese whaling vessel and being taken prisoner.

Isn’t that the reason why ships carry flags, because they are essentially an extension of a country.

If that whaling ship had the Japan flags, those idiots essentially invaded Japan and were lucky the Japanese sailors just didn’t throw them overboard with anchors tied to their feet.

I don’t like either side.

But watching the incompetence of the Sea Shepherds is entertaining... I’m just surprised there aren’t more dead ones. From time to time they do some incredibly stupid things...

Every time you think a libtard has said or done the stupidest thing ever - they come through with something even better.

I hope the 3 pirates spend a long time in jail.

I hope the crew of the whaling ship is generous with the fresh red meat in their rations. What’s your pleasure, gents? Rare, medium, well done, sashimi-style? Our pleasure, guys. Only the choicest freshest cuts...

It might take them a couple of days for them to get hungry enough to get used to the idea, but they’d eat it. And since they’re probably not getting off that ship until it returns to Japan — and then into the custody of The Japan Coast Guard — they’ll have a long time to appreciate the flavor.

That there is an official act of piracy. Slit their frigging throats and dump the bodies overboard.

Pirates? Did they attempt to take over the vessel? Not their purpose. PROTEST, ever hear of the word?

These inept bunch of hippies have done more to save whales than anything the gubmimt is doing. They are holding their gubmints feet to the fire. I give them a lot of credit for sticking up for a cause (a very worthy cause) they believe in. They literally risk their lives for what they believe in. You have to admire them for that.

I for one can't wait for the next episodes, looks like they will be doozies.

Isn't it the way that, somewhere between the Southern Ocean and Japan, they stole 50 feet of chain, in an attempt at sabotage, and swam away, presumably to return to Australia. No one in the crew saw them go...

A search was conducted, without success...

You have the right to protest, but not damage property or risk other’s lives, which these idiots do too often.

Let’s hope they enjoy their stay in the Japanese Hilton.

Keep in mind that Norway takes more whales than Japan. No need to go to the Southern ocean. The pirates could try to take over Norse ships, but that would be a losing proposition. I understand the Norse have lengths of chain ready to help the pirates help the whales by converting them to fish food.

The trespassed on Japaneses territory illegally in and attempt to prevent them from earning money and doing their Jobs. Not invited on the vessels, have tied numerous time to prevent them from dong their jobs.

So were you part of the occupy crowd or aligned with them in any way? Sure do act that way!

Communists risk their lives for what they believe in, too.

F***ing hippies can die.

Did they attempt to take over the vessel?

Absolutely! Their entire purpose is to take over the ship and redirect its mission to something other than taking whales. You've just redefined piracy with the word protest and think that makes the activity acceptable.

Yes, I have heard the word 'protest.' It can be done, in this case, from land. A protest is strictly verbal. Once physical actions takes place, i.e. blocking access, physical confrontation, boarding ships, you have escalated past 'protest' to 'prevention' and 'provocation.'
