President Barack Obama will join top Pentagon commanders to unveil a new "more realistic" vision for the military, including cuts to ground force numbers as a result of budget strains, officials familiar with the plans said on Wednesday.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will hold a news conference fleshing out the contents of the strategic review of U.S. security interests after Obama's brief remarks on Thursday at the Pentagon, the officials said.
They said the review would emphasize military investment in Asia as well as air and maritime power, while reducing the pace of growth in Pentagon budgets overall and relying less on ground troops for American engagement abroad.

This is the Obama Plan -
“All these new entitlement programs have to get their funding from somewhere ... and Defense is sitting on all that money .... hmmm, why not whack the Defense budget in half, and give it all to our supporters?
After all, no one’s gonna complain, now that we control Big Media and the public’s thinking! Bwahahaha!!”
Can't be killing the enemy up close and personal now, can we? It is not PC. Marines are always getting the wrong end of the stick! But they will always be there when needed!
We cannot vote this ass-clown president out of office fast enough...
This Usurper has committed so many Treasonous acts, with the complicity of a Republican rubber-stamping/look-the-other-way Congress.
This Country needs a do-over, badly.
“Thank you for your service. Now, bend over and smile.”
Why doesn’t he simply dissolve any armed forces we have? He is, after all, the cic and this would help his goal of complete destruction of the US. He proved today(and others) that the Constitution and any laws we have simply do not apply to him.
The last thing this guy is qualified to give an update on is reality..
The last thing this guy is qualified to give an update on is reality..
Didn't Clinton do the same thing with human intel assets in the Middle East, and as a result, we were woefully short on reliable information when it was needed?
As usual, some fool thinks that high-tech XXX is the best thing since sliced bread, never realizing that you cannot hold ground without boots on it. I don't care how many times you bomb it, shell it, or fly over it, unless troops are holding the ground, you don't own it.
During the last drawdown, the enlisted ranks took the big hit, and notional "command" positions expanded. By the time we rolled into Bosnia, an O-3 and his E-2 driver were a "command". Essentially, they did nothing more than ensure that some senior officer could write himself a bullet on his OER.
Someone in the Pentagon needs to fry for lacking the intestinal fortitude to straighten this mess out. obama is a dumb-a$$, so I can't fault him with not knowing this.
Bump
And from the Ron Paul/Rand Paul camp.

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that weve set. Weve got to have a civilian national security force thats just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded. Barack Hussein Obama, 7/2/2008
They dont call it a Civil Defense force, that would imply we need (or perhaps that we deserve) defense.
The official name is National Civilian Community Corps.
I think of it as the NATCCC, or simply the NATCs...
I bet this will be run under Ag or Nat Res. Something that fans out like white on rice.
And the participants will be trained in EPA Agenda 21 sustainability measures, in little pods. Like Forest ‘Rangers.’
And they will all be able to plead the The Nuremberg Defense, since they would only be “following orders.”
