POLITICO's Ginger Gibson reports:
Newt Gingrich still won't congratulate Mitt Romney for winning the Iowa caucuses.
At a news conference in Concord, N.H., Gingrich was asked by CBS correspondent Dean Reynolds why he congratulated Rick Santorum but not Romney.
Gingrich stared at the reporter and raised his eyebrows in silence, eventually drawing laughter from some of the reporters. "Because I know you would be a man of great professionalism, I know that's a rhetorical question. And a good one," Gingrich said.
During his speech in Des Moines last night, Gingrich visibly seethed at mention of Romney, who along with his supporters ran a barrage of attack ads against the former speaker. Romney said he'd spoken with every GOP rival last night except Gingrich.

If acting 'Civil' in a political run-off is beyond Newt's capability; if his precious ego can't handle a loss at this stage - how do you suppose he will behave if he gets a Democratic Congress to work with?
Now, I really hate to defend Romney (I honestly don't know how he feels about Canniblism; he's changed his mind 2 or more times on every other conservative principle). But, when Romney lost the nomination to Juan McCain, you never saw him behave like a spoiled little boy. He was mature, he offered his hand and publically congratulated Juan on a tough campaign; then threw his weight behind McCain.
I've seen the stuff that Newt is made of; and frankly, it's about the same level as what Obama has to offer. We will trade one narcistic, elitist man-child for another.
“Even Algore managed to be gracious when he lost,....”
Uh.....no he didn’t.
Adios Mitt-Troll. Tell your master Mitt-Witt that if Jim Robinson and FR have anything to say about it, that his chances of being the GOP nominee this year will be zotted just like your worthless hide.
How’d ya like that lightning ride? Was it good? I’m sure it was.
“Its a measure of maturity, not politics. The losing teams coach, even in Little League, congratulates the winning team on their victory. Most children learn this princple - it appears that this childhood lesson was missed by Newt.”
My GOD man, do you know anything about bare-knuckle politic’s? This has been going on for >200 years!!
Hannity LOL what a joke he is, haven’t watched or heard form him in months.
I don't like any of them but they're all better than Obama. It's a really sad thing that Republicans can't come up with a decent candidate. My guess is right now unless someone else gets in the race that Obama wins in a squeaker. But I'm always a pessimist.
Actual quote...” Its very hard not to look at the recent polls and think that the odds are very high Im going to be the nominee.”
“The odds are high I’m going to be the nominee” is different than “I’m going to be the nominee.”
His statement was purposefully taken out of context.
You say you hate to DEFEND Willard but that won’t ever stop you from doing exactly THAT.
Knock it off, dude. Quit helping Willard and knocking our latest front runners.
you support the RINO Romney, and then you use the politico liberal rag.
Romney is a snake and no conservative, you support the RINO do you?
oh piss off Romneybot RINO.
This is a conservative website, not a libertarian one or a liberal one, now do one.
Newt knows how the game works. I read this as leveraging the press to his advantage. I’m pretty much in the Newt camp at this stage but would vote for an orange juice can over the Kenyan.
It’s a good thing I know you to be a man of honor, that you would NEVER condsider doing anything hypocritical; because I know that if Obama lost and went on a name-calling temper tantrum; knowing how your integrity would prevent you from criticizing Obama for being an immature jerk. Why, I know you would do defend his immature temper tantrum - after all, this is “bare-knuckle politic’s”.
Me, I measure all men by the same measure. If it’s a mark of immaturity of Newt to act like a spoiled child; I’ll call him on it. If Obama does the same, I will call him on that too. I don’t play favorites - to do so would be hypocritical, right?
AND it was a two-fer. The original teddy (see link at post #61) has also left the building.
Newt has made it plain from the beginning that he would be running a positive campaign al a Reagan’s 11th Commandment, would not tolerate prejoritave/biased Media questions, nor intercine mud slinging, all the while keeping his comments focused upon the disasterious policies of Obama and the Dems, and Newt’s solutions to the challenges facing the nation.
Romney, desperate in his falling poll numbers to Newt’s surge in the wake of his debate perfornmances and town home style meetings, took the low road and ~ 3 weeks ago began a vicious ad hominium onslaught against Newt using a “super PAC” as cover.
To my mind Newt is more than justified in bringing Romney and his campaign to account for their actions.
Newt doesn’t need to use half truths and lies against Romney..... a magnafying glass applied to Romney’s record is all that is required. I’m sure Newt is up to the task of exposing Romney to the Republican primary electorate.
You may characterize that as “thinned skinned,” but as far as I am concerned “Good on Newt!
Romney has, more than once, proved he is a slime ball politician.....it’s way past time he is called out on it.
Who better to do that than Newt himself? He won’t need a “super PAC” to do the job and provide the cover to keep him lily white innocent.
Unlike “W” Newt can, and will, defend himself and Conservative American values. I like it!
NO Mittens Romney. ...not now ...not never!
Gingrich calls a spade a spade! Romney lies through his rotten teeth every time he turns around! I’ve seen him do it A Cooley as a cucumber! A very dangerous man, Mitt Romney!
I’m aware that many of the less analytical, a faction which you now claim a kinship with, would not see a distinction. That is the nature of propaganda...plausible deniability of using his actual words mixed with clever editing to subtley change the meaning of what he actually said. I see a great distinction and an intent to mislead on the part of ABC News.
