GLOBAL TRAVELERS BEWARE: Another Icelandic Volcano Is Rumbling

Katla, yet another huge Icelandic volcano, is showing signs that it may soon erupt and cause chaos to world air transport.

Al Jazeera reports that earth tremors around the immense volcano are leading to concerns that an eruption could have both profound effects on Iceland's landscape, as well as disrupting travel worldwide. The volcano last erupted in 1918, making it well overdue for a blast, and it's lava chamber is thought to be some 10 times the size of Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010.

(By the way, this is hardly the only Icelandic volcano you should be worrying about. Last year we saw reports that Grimsvotn and Bárdarbunga, two other icelandic volcanos, were due to erupt.)

The threat is so great that devices that can be used to track ash particles in the air are currently being tested on European aircraft, Der Spiegel reports. Such devices should hopefully enable flights to continue in the event of an ash cloud following a volcanic eruption.

Some experts say that despite Katla's immense size, perhaps we're overreacting. Xinhua Net reports that scientists in Iceland are uncertain as to whether the volcano will actually erupt and, even if it did, they are unsure whether such an eruption would be large enough to cause major concern.

In 2010 the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, another Icelandic volcano, caused the grounding of numerous flights around the world with airlines concerned about the effect ash particles would have on airplanes' engines.

Good luck with that one. The last time there was a big blow up in Iceland's volcanos the Arabs recovered first and came marching out with Islam (that same 535 - 541 period).

What we need are a bunch of volcanos in Afars to blow up and put them all in a Dark Age (as if they'd notice). Then the Christians can go marching about.

I think these prophecies apply to different people in a different time.

IIRC, the Year One in Islam was 622 A.D. when Mohammed made his hijra from Mecca to Medina (he died in 632 A.D.). The Muslim conquest of the Arabian peninsula and the Middle East took place over the following hundred years.

Alaska Eruption Puts Airlines on Alert

People have already seen the kinds of problems volcanic eruptions can cause for the airline industry. Maybe that is why so many people are disappointed to hear that another eruption has put the airline industry on high alert. According to reports, a volcano in Alaska has sent an ash plume some 15,000 feet into the air. This ash plume is a cause for concern.

Scientists in Alaska and airlines have been put on alert. They have been on alert ever since the ash cloud came about on Thursday. Cleveland Volcano in Alaska’s Aleutian islands sent up an ash cloud that prompted scientists to increase the alert level for commercial planes. To make matters even worse, they are not even 100 percent sure if the eruption is over with yet.

Once an ash cloud reaches 20,000 feet, the airline industry and the Federal Aviation Administration really start to worry. This is when airlines have to start canceling flights

Both as it turns out. Problem with Krakatau is it didn't blow up in the critical time period ~ but it may have STARTED something that an eruption in Iceland amplified ~ kind of like there's two football players. One guy is placing the ball. The next one kicked it. Who got the fieldgoal? Well, the team got the fieldgoal!!!

I think we have eyewitness accounts of a near miss by a comet right there at the beginning. King Ad, Lady Guinivir, Saint Gildas and others saw it!

535-541 was a worldwide problem, worse in the Northernmost parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

Recovery from that problem (that same.... period) made a big difference politically.

The further South the quicker the recovery ~ presuming there was any recovery possible.

So, the Byzantines and Persians persisted in battling it out just in time to find the Arabs were in better shape fiscally, and militarily, so the Arabs finished up the fight against the Persians and proceeded to take over former elements of the Roman Empire.

Many at the time applauded the Arabs for eliminating the Persian threat.

The Arabs biggest "victories", if not their biggest "battles" took place in quick succession right after they'd conquered Damascus. The histories show they proceeded to hire entire Byzantine military units and much of the Byzantine navy. Those folks hadn't been paid for a century.

The rest of the development of the Arab empire in the West occurred in less than a century. The development in the East took longer simply because of the greater distances involved.

So, your question is, was Islam one of God's tools? Might be God makes judgments on a basis so profound we can never know the answer. In any case, Northern and Western Europe, Central Asia and much of China had entered the period as the world's largest outdoor slums ~ and when you read the few writings that occurred in that period the writers seem oblivious to the fact things had gotten much worse!

Interesting. According to the Global Volcanism Program's website, Katla's Eruptive History does show an eruption around 540AD, but the closest on Krakatau's Eruptive History is 416 and 850AD.

Tell me more about the comet sightings at that time.

it is quite a surreal place, large tracts of the country are covered in geologically recent lava fields. I remember one hill near lake myvatn which you could see had literally been ripped at the center and separated over time.

The country, from a landscape perspective, is unique.

There's a part in the writings of St. Gildas where he refers to a fire that raged across the land and went into the Western Sea.

This is usually read as a reference to the invasion of the Saxons into Souvrn' England.

What we now know is there was no large invasion, no burning of the country, and people didn't just die with no signs of wounds ~ as indicated in Gildas.

You could have a smaller comet behave like a meteor bolid that would swoop in a great arc over a considerable part of the planet. Depending on how close it was, it could start fires as it passed. People on the ground would have seen it coming for months possibly. The noise would have been absolutely incredible if it managed to penetrate the atmosphere.

As it passed beyond the atmosphere in the far West it would have seemed to have first disappeared into the sea.

So, yes, that's one eyewitness. There are others. It's the basis for the end of the Annals of the Kings of Britain ~ the END OF THE WORLD ~ and then all the characters become survivors.

Myrrden had to replant the grapes in Brittany, and on the upper reaches of the Rhone Valley. Probably got frozen out. And who's Myrrden ~ isn't he from Europe? Why did these guys move from Britain to Brittany and France ~ where were the people ~ didn't anybody think to stop them? Tree rings from that time even show several years of stunted growth.

The caravans crossing the Great Sind in Baluchistan moved on, a few dogs barked! No one noticed that Europe and China were missing!

I've flown over Iceland FOUR TIMES. It is absolutely mind-numbing. Everywhere else you see features like that they've been worn down by millions of years of weather.

In Iceland it's all fresh tossed out from the upper mantle.

Sounds a lot like the Great Peshtigo fire which happened at exactly the same time as the Great Chicago Fire, which some attribute to Comet Biela.
