There is this one too in today's news...

Alaska Eruption Puts Airlines on Alert

Volcanic Ash CloudPeople have already seen the kinds of problems volcanic eruptions can cause for the airline industry. Maybe that is why so many people are disappointed to hear that another eruption has put the airline industry on high alert. According to reports, a volcano in Alaska has sent an ash plume some 15,000 feet into the air. This ash plume is a cause for concern.

Scientists in Alaska and airlines have been put on alert. They have been on alert ever since the ash cloud came about on Thursday. Cleveland Volcano in Alaska’s Aleutian islands sent up an ash cloud that prompted scientists to increase the alert level for commercial planes. To make matters even worse, they are not even 100 percent sure if the eruption is over with yet.

Once an ash cloud reaches 20,000 feet, the airline industry and the Federal Aviation Administration really start to worry. This is when airlines have to start canceling flights

Huge volcano 390 miles from London set to erupt?
http://travel.aol.co.uk/2012/01/02/huge-volcano-390-miles-from-london-set-to-erupt/

A volcano with the power to eject billions of tons of magma is due to erupt anytime, say experts.

Located under the Laacher See lake near Bonn in Germany erupts every 10 to 12,000 years, and last exploded 12,900 years ago.

Small earthquakes in the region indicate that it could be waking up, and experts predict ‘widespread devastation, mass evacuations, and even short term global cooling from ash cloud blocking the sun’, says the Daily Mail.

Volcanologists believe that the volcano is still active as carbon dioxide bubbles are rising to the lake’s surface, which indicate the magma chamber degassing.

Experts are not entirely sure of the effects it would have on Britain, but predict that large areas of southern England could be covered in ash.
