Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
“How about Ron Paul in charge of Energy, EPA or Education? Just give him a big axe and chop away!”
I say we put him in charge of a agency we want to get rid of *completely*, along with his job. 2 for the price of 1!
You are so right! I didn't decide on Santorum until late November myself and then had reservations when I saw only 1, 2, or 3 percent support nationally, which may still apply. I think he would be good in the office and he has much less baggage than Gingrich and is a good debater if people could understand.
He's back. :(
One thing is for sure. Any Conservative below 10% should drop out and join the STOP ROMNEY MOVEMENT ASAP, and that is coalesce behind the top, leading Conservative (non-anarchist) taking on that sap from Massachusetts. Otherwise, Romney will squeak in to be the RINO standard-bearer sacrificial establishment lamb against Obongo with something like 25% of the vote max in all these states, and once again Conservatives will be wailing and gnashing teeth in the dark wilderness. There should be an internal GOP "come to jesus meeting" tomorrow asap, exluding hunstman, paul and romeny, IMHO, to hash this out.
“Dollars and sense, his message resonates.”
But Old Ron Paul loses astute folks when he claims that the West putting sanctions on Iran is an act of war at Iran, but doesn’t say that Iran having nukes is an act of war. Ron Paul is kooky.
One, that ‘government education’, they wouldn’t even let me in. Seems they don’t take folks with disabilities.
Two, seems they don’t hire folks with disabilities either, despite our qualifications.
I went to school, paid my own way through school, and don’t owe anybody a dime.
The debt, just 10 years ago was 40 percent of GDP. Now it’s 100 percent. You bet I’m angry.
Thanks.
And now watch them tear apart Santorum 24/7 at Fox News for getting in their Precious Willard’s way..
But looking at the glass half full, that helps Newt : )
Yes! and just wait until the debate this saturday in NH!!! hope Newt is on fire! and broadcasts to the world the lies in Romneys super pac ads. I am proud of him coming in the top 4...GOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEWT!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOT WOOT
Amen.
Endorsements from Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, or other prominent conservatives would also go a long way toward helping us rally around a single candidate.
I wonder if Fred Barnes will use his same logic as four years ago and say that coming in 4th is great for Gingrich?? Doubt it. He was pushing McCain then and is pushing Romney now so whatever position Romney comes in will be great for Romney
Wow,Dead heat.Happy to see Santorum’s name there.
HALELUJAH! YOU are serious! FAUX NEWS 1.888.369.4762
DONE WITH FOX works for me!!
What's a 'convincing win'? A win's a win, right? One more vote than Paulbot or Santorum. And right now Mittens is on top.
Logistics.
It isn't a game of Command and Conquer out there, you need to have supply lines, forward positions, strategic and tactical data points, and people who know the weather, the political situation, and the cultural impact of what is going on in each part of the world.
You can't just send in soldiers and sailors without having your logistics taken care of beforehand. That is why you need people already positioned before an emergency takes place.
Wow, you're right. Santorum DID learn some really bad things from Newt. Fortunately he's nowhere near as bad as Newt and never picked up Newt's bad habits of sitting on the couch with Nancy Pelosi to endorse global warming or going on education tours with Al Sharpton. But no doubt Santorum has some drawbacks that also apply to Newt's record. That's why it's cute when Newt supporter foam about the mouth about Santorum endorsing Arlen Specter after Karl Rove twisted his arm, but have absolutely NO problem with Newt endorsing the even more liberal Dede Scozzafava on his OWN accord. Apparently you think throwing stones in your glass house will get Newt votes! Guess voters aren't buying the "it's only bad when Santorum does it" argument. Too bad. Has Newt won ANY Iowa counties thus far?
Spot on!
I will never EVER vote for that Israel-hating, Muslim-coddling, dangerously naïve man!
Ron Paul doesn’t want to defend the US from Muslim terrorists. We simply need to ‘understand’ them and avoid hurting their self-esteeeeem.
Dear kindly Sergeant Krupke,
You gotta understand,
It’s just our bringin’ up-ke
That gets us out of hand.
Our mothers all are junkies,
Our fathers all are drunks.
Golly Moses, natcherly we’re punks!
Gee, Officer Krupke, we’re very upset;
We never had the love that ev’ry child oughta get.
We ain’t no delinquents,
We’re misunderstood.
Deep down inside us there is good!
The youth is actually quite simple to figure out.
1. They don’t like the wars. They are sick of it.
2. They are more libertarian than anything else. They want less government control and enforcement across the board.
3. They dont care about social issues. Even the young Republicans really don’t care that much.
I remember a poll a while ago that showed a surprising majority of college students are pro-life. Something like 60%. HOWEVER, only about 1/3rd favored a federal ban. And that’s how they think on nearly every social issue across the board. They have adopted a philosophy of moral relativism. In other words, they don’t believe in an ultimate right or wrong when it comes to judging the morals of others. And we are talking about a very significant percentage of the youth that share this type of thinking.
I’ve worked with a lot of youth in the 20-30 age range. And I’ve talked to many of them about politics over the years. It does not surprise me one bit that they support people like Ron Paul.
In the past we didnt really care about the youth because they rarely turned out to vote. Now the generation X’ers, and Y’ers are starting to pay attention, and they are starting to vote. And I think that is some of what’s spooking the GOP elitists.
