Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
Polls seem to say:
Romney 23
Paul 22
Santorum 18
Newt 17
Perry 12
Bachmann 5
Others 3
Because Iowa always gets it wrong - so it coud be:
Paul 24
Santorum 22
Romney 20
Newt 15
Perry 12
Bachmann 5
Others 2
Thanks
Is Iowa another open primary? Unbelievable. Why bother? Wouldn’t it be a lot easier if we just asked the Democrats which Republican they don’t want?
I’m watching them stacking up the vote cards.
Boycott FOX anyone? CSpan is covering this and this is where FAUX is getting the news they are talking over. We have got to cut FOX loose some time and this is peak coverage night to do it! We will live without FOX.
I am at my precinct caucus. 200 people here. No one spoke for bachmann huntzman or romney. That shocked me. But good. Four years ago my precinct had romney tied for second.
Ron Paul sweeps the under 30 vote:
Paul (58 percent) > Romney (15 percent) > Santorum (10 percent)
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2012/iowa-caucus-jan-3/entrance-polls
The numbers are bad. REALLY BAD. If this entrance poll data proves correct, it shows that Mitt Romney and Ron Paul are both getting large percentages of the evangelical Christian vote and of self-identified strong conservatives.
Entrance polls are worth considerably more than telephone polls beforehand since they poll who is actually going into the caucuses. The question is whether FOX has effectively polled the more conservative western parts of the state.
If this poll is accurate we are going to have a really, really bad night.

which is why Paul should not be allowed to run on the GOP ticket as he is not a republican, we should not allow liberals to vote in our primaries and Paul has made a mockery of our election process and he’s NOT EVEN A REPUBLICAN BUT ALLOWED TO SPOUT HIS ;LIES IN OUR ELECTIONS
Not watching Fox, watching CSPAN as they count votes.
I feel as if the Iowa caucus has been going on forever and ever. Amazing that Paultard is doing so well. Quite frankly if the voters in Iowa has disregarded the smear attacks on Newt (which were blatant lies) I have NO doubt he would have been in the top two...oh and thank you so much Rove and Coulter for your daily slams against the former Speaker of the House and defense of a flip flopping liar aka Mittens
When the county by county votes come in, I have the templates up to compare to 2008. If our caucus was manipulated, we’ll be easily able to see where. Looking forward to exposing this crap.
Watching the facebook county live map, looks like Santorum is winning big...
mostly Santorum county leads, a good handful of paul. and a measly 2 for romney...
I hope Mitt gets soundly defeated... by anyone.
No Bachmann? That’s disappointing.
Are you in a city?
THANK YOU
CNN just had an extrance poll that broke it down by evangelical and not evangelical.
According to their #s, Paul and Romney are duking it out for 1st with Paul having an ever so slight margin. I’m talking tenths of a pct here.
Santorum is solidly in 3rd a few pts behind them. Newt is solidy in 4th a few pts behind Santoru. Then Perry a couple pts behind Newt. Bachmann has faded.
Should be interesting. We’ll be here for a while.
