Newt had his chance but it’s clear now that he’s peaked, it’s down to Santorum vs Romney.

1 or 2 precincts left and Santorum is up over Mitt by less than 20 votes.

That would be a very decent ticket.

Keokuk County is the only one still out with Santorum holding a 5% lead there, 94% of the vote reporting.

The 14th Amendment says all persons born in the US are natural born citizens. --
Not quite. The legal debate hinges on the 14th amendment phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof."
To: Impy
Yep, only bout a 100 votes or so.

The Des Moines Register's
tally lists other (118) and No preference (132) with the candidates showing the same total Fox had 5-10 minutes ago. It seems that those hoping for a big Sarah write in vote won't be happy tonight.

Santorum over Romney by 29,944 to 29,926 with 99.9 percent in. Hes +18, only about 100 ballots outstanding. So that pickup with 500 ballots finally made to Ames? Maybe the guy driving was listening to an old, never-ending Moody Blues song.

Yes I did .. stunning. He did it by just
grinding it out, depending on the kindness of
strangers and God and shoe leather.. day in
and day out. It’s like a Jimmy Stewart movie.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the Iowa results for 2008.
McCain took the number 4 spot(about 13%)and wound up being the GOP nominee.
I’m voting for Santorum in the primary and whoever is running against Obama in the general.
I’m happy that Santorum took it, but I’m not going to gloat or hold my breath.
2008 was a wild and sometimes painful ride. One by one, people dropped out and at the oddest times...

I’m told they prefer Slim Whitman in Iowa.
To: antceecee
If you count his super pac money it was probably around $350/vote. Not very fiscally conservative.

Sorry, Clinton County is also still out.
This is way beyond a nail-biter.

I agree!
Stay in, Rick! Don’t wimp out like Herman.
No one’s certain of what can and will happen.
This is a year that, even if they never admit it,
WILL defy the smug beltway punditry, damn them all.

Bachmann is done and adds nothing to anyone’s ticket. She has no money, no support and no influence (not even an endorsement) to lend to anyone, least of all Santorum, who is already conservative. The nominee picks someone to serve his/her ticket who attracts some voting block the nominee does not.
