2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

It’s too bad, that it seems the race is over even before the first primary. I wonder about the wisdom of having so many televised debates? Debate performance seemed to impact candidate momentum more than usual.

I dunno know...

Right now only 5 votes separate Romney from Santorum. This is probably the closest statewide contest since the infamous one in Florida in the 2000 presidential election.

Should mention that Cain got 58 votes tonight.

Well, Romney just wrapped up the conservative vote.

Shirley, you jest. No conservatives voted for Romney.

Romney and Palin endorsed McCain over JD Hayworth. McCain is just paying back a debt.

I espectfully disagree. Romney appears to have been faithful to his wife, is more intelligent, and does not adore illegal aliens. McCain's support of him will just hurt Romney.

The good news is that Santorum is only a few votes behind Romney in Iowa - close enough to call it a tie and the lead might change yet. Santorum did much better than expected.

The speech is great even though the lead switched back to Mittens as Santoroum was speaking.

IN THEORY, you might be right, but I can’t think of a place where that would apply in Iowa. Look at the vote totals by county.

Assuming half of the 13% were a combination of a 50-50 split.
Half of his voters were male and half were female. That would be 6.5% Female and 6.5% male for a total of 13%.

CNN Pulled that info back. What happened? It’s back to 98% instead of 99%.

Truck must have shown up.

The backing of McPain will be particularly boring; maybe Lindsey Graham should fly up to lend it more spice.
