Liberal talk show host Alan Colmes sunk to new a new low when he said on Fox News that former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum took his deceased baby home to 'play with it.'
Noting that the GOP has "speed-dated" every other candidate, Colmes said voters should "get a load" of what he called the "crazy things" Santorum has said and done.
"Like taking his two-hour old baby who died right after childbirth home and played with it for a couple hours so his other children would know it was real, I mean..."
At this point, Fox News contributor Rich Lowry tore into Colmes, calling his statement a "cheap shot."
Lowry lambasted Colmes for "mocking" the death of Santorum's child and said it was beneath the liberal talker, sometimes known as "Skeletor" among some conservatives

Wow, you're cold.
The real point is the baby was theirs and their grief was theirs; therefore, it's none of anyone's business how they dealt with their grief, or helped their family deal with the grief.
I don’t understand what Santorum did, but I didn’t lose a child... Colmes is despicable for saying such a thing, though.
Not that that should stop them from trying!
Yes the baby is dead, but people get attached to them, and love them before they are born, alot of times they have names by then. It’s so much more then just a dead baby.
You tell him!

The part about women treating baby dolls as real babies maybe has more meaning than we can realize. It’s possible that these women have lost children when they were small, or the worst case scenario, they may have had abortions and are trying to relive having a live child. I know a woman whose grown child had died two years earlier suddenly and she wanted to have a baby doll, one of the ones that looks like a real baby. And my aunt lost 3 grown children from juvenile diabetes, and she got a baby doll. I don’t think she plays with it, but it must be some sort of comfort to have the doll substitutes.
Only a liberal would ridicule a family that lost a newborn child because of the way they deal with grief.
Alan Colmes is known for his mean spirited cheap shots against conservatives. Just like the rest of the MSM.
The only question is why FOX chooses to keep Colmes on the payroll after this.
Except that nobody would have known about it if Rick Santorum had not told them.
He made it a public issue.
Why?
I could not stomach Colmes when he was with Hannity, but now he is more disgusting than Carville was.
In every discussion, Colmes is on the most evil depraved side of every issue, and he takes pride in that with that smirky grin. The devils spawn, and FOX failed.
Who knows? Could be an experiment to see how much human garbage would pop up.
Let’s not forget the other liberals on FNC: Shep Smith, Greg Jarrod, Clayton Morris, Leis Wiehl (sp?), Margaret Hoover, maybe Bill Hemmer and a half dozen or so others.
I know that the producers and writers often project the liberal views that some of the “readers” have to say on TV, but some of the folks I named above often let their liberal bias slip when not reading the scripts.
Maybe to show that he’s pro-life? and that his family has dealt with difficulty? Was the statement taken out of context?
Hope this ends his 'contract'.
Colmes suffers from anencephaly.
You may find it weird, and so may others. I won’t disagree that it seems a little weird. However... I think it took a lot of courage for them to do that. It must have been extremely painful but it shows me how much they valued the life of their son that passed away. It’s none of your business or anyone elses how they handled the death of their son. They did what they thought was right for them and their other children.

To have treated their baby with the love and respect JUST AS IF IT WERE A LITTLE HUMAN AND PART OF THIS FAMILY in order to love and honor it is a very personal thing, and way beyond the purvue of a reptile like Colmes and others who want to titillate over them playing with it like a doll, etc.
When I was a little girl, my grandfather died at home. The men built a wooden coffin. The women lined it with flannel and a homemade quilt and washed the body and dressed it for burial. He was placed in the front hall and family and neighbors sat up with him all night--it was called a wake.
What the Santorums did was their way of coping with grief and making all the family an integral part. They grieved for and buried a child. It was private and should have remained that way.

Because it is a life altering event...because it makes you realize how precious all life is..because...never mind, you wouldn’t understand..and I pray that you never have to suffer through an experience that MIGHT make you understand...until then, don’t judge what you have not experienced..just be grateful.
Thanks for an excellent explanation. Generally, Christians and certainly Catholics recognize the dignity in and of the Word of God that is attached to the “seed”, in Biblical terms. Here we have a newborn, certainly worthy of dignity as a human soul also. To be able to release someone and let them go in a godly manner and with dignity, it would be nice to first actually receive them into the family and with the family.
Another FReeper said that this newborn suffered from a fatal condition which was known and diagnosed by the physicians, and that this cruel remark was more about the fact that the baby didn not get aborted. If this really is the inherent motivation of liberal wickedness, imagine just how dark their world actually is.
