At least 16 cars burned Saturday morning in Los Angeles bringing the total number of suspected arson fires to 44 over the last two days, sources told ABC News.
In nearly every case, the fires were set in cars parked in and around the Hollywood area. In some cases, the flames spread to nearby buildings.
Investigators have not determined a motive behind the blazes, nor have they established whether they are the work of one person or the efforts of people acting together.
They are looking at all possibilities behind the blazes, especially the prospect of a serial arsonist on the loose.
San Fernando fire captain George Villegas says some people have been questioned for the crimes.

Was in the garden today and noticed the Santa Ana winds here in the IE. Was thinking geez I hope some nut is not out setting fire with the wind up. Seems to happen all to frequently. Stay safe SoCal.

I hate to say it but 44 fires in one night such as this without getting caught is quite an accomplishment. Very sad for the victims and concerning for the firefighters. The resources it took last night . . . some freak is getting their rocks off with causing chaos. My guess is a serial killer personality type. Loner or a well organized small group. Most likely a single person. Easier to control the outcome that way.
Hope I am wrong though. Maybe the SOB will be in the precinct in a few hours.

Organizing a flash mob is one thing . Getting materials for over 40 incendiary devices ,building the incendiary devices,distributing the incendiary devices & doing it without leaving a trail that can be followed by a drunken blind man takes a modest amount of smarts & organizational skills as well as a serious motivation not something from your average gangbanger skill set.
