I was just getting my hair cut at the Lackland AFB (now something called a joint base) when this guy in a leather flight jacket . . . probably from the National Guard or the Air Force reserves next door . . . challenges his femsle barber . . . "Do you smoke?"
This pissy officer explains, barbers smoke and he can't stand the smell of tobacco smoke on their breath as they cut his hair.
But, he can smell and enjoy the scent of JP-4.
This flying officer needs to be identified and removed from flying status . . . or removed from training and discharged.
Yes, the Air Force does screen its pilots for mental defect. If they have one—or more, they are qualified to fly.
I’m not sure that discharging servicemen for being rude is in our national best interests.
Smokers stink. Is that news to you?
If he doesn't like the haircut at the BX, he should have his long-suffering wife cut his hair.

I would like to discharge their CIC for being rude, though.

I smoke . . . wael . . . sometimes I do.
Bet on your best day, I smell better than you.
Trust me . . . you do not want to advance another silly insult my way.
And what do you fly ?
Or rather, what type of desk do you fly ?
Mental illness is about self disclosure. You can’t diagnose it. They guy was probably just a dick.
Congratulations on filling up FR bandwidth with useless drivel!
Smoking addiction is a mental defect.
Aberrant behavior in a post barber shop . . .
Is this not sn indicstion the officer should be removed from Instructor Pilot duties or removed from pilot training?
Does Congress screen Senators and Reps for mental defects? (obviously not)
And then following it up with threats like “Trust me . . . you do not want to advance another silly insult my way.” This person doesn’t really sound like he’s hitting on all cylinders.
So.... this officer expressed their opinion that smokers smell like smoke. And somehow this offends you. Guess what, you have the right to be offended, just as the officer has the right to express their opinion.
I don’t give a care if he is rude to his barber. I care if he will go into harms way and rudely bomb our enemies.
Not at all. But I wouldn’t upset a barber who is cutting my hair and has a razor at his/her disposal near my neck. My comment is just because someone can fly an aircraft does not mean he (or she) has the sense God gave a turnip. And having spend four decades with the Air Force and DoD, I would tend to bet on the turnip.
It wasn’t a silly insult. Smokers do stink. It’s the way things are and no matter how much perfume or breath spray you use, you cannot cover it up if you have just finished smoking. Get over yourself. And I don’t believe threats such as you made are really condoned here.
Why, yes.
Very successfully, too, it would appear.
