Gov. Rick Perry is double-dipping, drawing retirement income from the state in addition to his salary as governor since late January, newly released records show.

Perry's move to begin drawing from his pension early this year while remaining governor, which his staff says is legal and consistent with state retirement rules, was unknown to the public until federal financial disclosures were made public on Friday. ... Combined, his net pay from the state is now more than $225,000 annually.

So you think it is okay to be on the state payroll AND draw a pension from the state?

Well, I guess that’s why he didn’t answer to Romney, “Hey, I can’t afford a $10K bet, pardner.”

It's not a pension, it's an annuity based on what he put into it (tax deferred, like a 401k) from his prior service.

He will get a pension when he retires.

Texas legislature needs to change the law. Until the law is changed then he’d be a moron not to take advantage of it. Of course, someone like you would be too smart to draw a pension and a salary if you were eligible....

So he is part of the problem that created this system and so he is a parasite that is destroying America.

I’m not a Perry for Prez supporter, but I’d bet that you’d find some people right on this forum that double, maybe even triple dip. It’s not that uncommon. Threads like this do nothing but make David Axelrod happy.

How is pulling his money, that he paid in, being a parasite?

It's not a retirement. That comes later. It's an annuity that he paid into.

If this is the excuse, it clearly proves that he is not president material. He will do nothing as president and keep claiming that it is Congress that needs to change the law. Why is he even talking of repealing Obamacare when we know that he will only give the excuse that it is not his job but that job of the Congress?

Keep in mind that Texas has a huge Republican majority. Rick Perry is a big government parasite and a thief.

It was never his money because most of his career has been in the government doing nothing except to feed off the system. Rick Perry is a parasite who is worse than those who live off welfare.

I agree. However, when he says things like cutting retirement for Congressman when he is getting a pension, it looks very bad.

I could give a sh!t about Rick Perry, but if you think I’m going to get as worked up as you about something that is both moral and ethical, so far as I can see, then you’re crazy....

No it isn’t. He is under the old rules. He gets a FULL pension NOW. Let’s not be liars like the media.

You have a problem with state’s rights? Until Texas changes their plan this is the way it is, Perry or no Perry.
