Rubio Slams Administration For Abuses Of People-To-People Cuba Program
Right Side News ^ | 12/16/12 | Marco Rubio

Excerpt and video of Rubio's speech: "Here's my challenge to the Administration and the State Department: You're not going to change your mind, but at least examine how this is being implemented because this is a charade." Washington, D.C. (Right Side News) – During a Senate floor speech this evening, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio highlighted the rampant abuses that occur under the Obama Administration’s “people-to-people” program. As part of his remarks, Rubio read from several days’ worth of dancing and music appreciation-heavy travel itineraries that are currently licensed under this program. Below is an excerpt of the speech: “There’s this sports show. I think it’s on ESPN on Sunday nights, where they review NFL highlights. And Michael Irvin, who was a great player, he has this segment called ‘Come on, man!’, where they put some ridiculous thing that happened during the day and he’ll say, ‘Come on, man!’

“When I look at this stuff, you know what I want to say? Come on, man. This is about promoting democracy and freedom in Cuba? This is not about promoting democracy and freedom in Cuba. This is nothing more than tourism. This is tourism for Americans that, at best, are curious about Cuba and, at worst, sympathize with the Cuban regime.

If I can travel to China I should be able to travel to Cuba. It’s simply none of the government’s business where I go.

Knock yourself out bigboy. Go to the DR and catch a flight to Cuba. Your passport will not be stamped. My friend did this
So really....no one is stopping you from checking out Fidel's island prison

RE “Tone it down”

Perhaps, as a hispanic himself, he hears the comments that that facet of the community i smaking - the things that they won’t say out loud to anyone else.

He wants Republicans to win elections, and to win elections, we do need a portion of the legal hispanic vote.

It IS a numbers game at the end of the day, and it is a reality of the country at this point in history - like it or not.

Just something to consider.

Cubans want nothing to do with “La Raza” which is both racist and marxist.

I agree. I can’t wait until they open up Cuba for travel. I hear it is beautiful. I went to China (beijing) and you would have thought I was in New York City. It wasn’t until I went to the Great Wall that I thought I was in another country. I stayed at the Hilton, ate breakfast at Dunkin Donuts, lunch at McD’s, dinner at Hard Rock. It is VERY Americanized. I can hardly believe that some Americans slam the place. It is a fun place to vacation.

Cuba is a Marxist state.

Once you get outside of the tourist area, Cuba is a mess. I saw a video shot a few years back by some friends who went there on an educational visa to see the old Hershey electric railway...the small towns looked like something out of the fifth world.

We were fools to pull our support of Batista (admittedly no saint) in 1958, just as we did the Shah in 1979.

If you think a Cuban American affiliates with the distinctly Aztlan supporting Mexican/South American La Raza, you are completely un-informed.

Cuban Americans consider themselves (and rightly so, given their level of productive assimilation into US culture and business) at the TOP of the pyramid of the Latino demographic.

Have never met a Cuban, even the most liberal neocommunist (unless they are of the negrito/mulatto background), who identifies with La Raza. They don’t even identify with Puerto Ricans. They identify with Spanish colonial aristocracy and European traditions.

It is a classic yanqui/democrat ploy to lump the incredibly faithful and patriotic Cuban Americans with the “other spics”- and you do not know what you are talking about with Marco Rubio. 5 generations of true Floridians know all about Cuban Americans.

Not on your life would MSM report it. What is more, Rubio has been interviewed on the subject, and considers himself not “natural born” in the Constitutional definition. Quite refreshing, and also— not well reported.

Is it not odd that immigrant conservatives have to tell Americans about their Constitution, while the liberal establishment descendants of the Founding Fathers continue to degrade the original intent of our principal document?

Typical ignorance of the differences between various Hispanic cultures.
When my lovely daughter was going to school in Tampa and working part time, the Cubans she worked with would say things about Mexicans and S. Americans that are less than flattering to say the least. I've heard Puerto Ricans bash those "damned effen Mexicans". But doesn't this type of infighting go on among all ethnicities?

Do you have a source for that?

As recently as October:

"Asked if he thought he was eligible to be president, Rubio demurred. "I'm not going to answer that because I'm not thinking about it. All I care about is my qualifications to serve in the Senate."

The first rush of Cubans were upper and upper middle class people excaping from Castro’s Marxist vision. As things got worse more and more lower level Cubans escaped. Then there was the Marielito dumping of prisoners and mental cases on our shores. On the other hand many Mexicans, are very poor people looking for work so they can send money back to their impoverished families. Guatemalans and Salvadorians were often escaping from dangerous terrorist activity in their countries that killed tens of thousandas of people.

I was in Miami in 2006, and saw a Puerto Rican grocery store clerk snap at a hispanic, origin unknown, “Speak English, you’re in America now.”

Citizen of Cuba??? (Rubio???)

I seriously doubt we’ll hear a credible breakdown and or a quantifiable explaination of this statement...

You gonna tell us Rubio never “naturalized” and is still an elected US Senator from Florida???

Senator Marco Rubio is not a natural born Citizen of the United States since his parents were not U.S. Citizens when he was born. Marco Rubio was born a dual-Citizen, i.e., a Cuban Citizen via his parents and a U.S. Citizen by birth in the USA.

For more information about U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s lack of being a “natural born Citizen of the United States” and his dual Citizenship at birth, i.e., having citizenship and allegiance to Cuba and the U.S. at birth per U.S., Cuban, and international law, see this post:
