~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: The U. S. Coast Guard Research And Development Center, Connecticut

The United States Coast Guard Research & Development Center (CGRDC) located in New London, Connecticut is the Coast Guard's center for operational analysis and mission execution solutions.

The Research & Development Center is dedicated to maximizing its contribution by maintaining a balanced portfolio of projects that support the Coast Guard's short, medium, and long range requirements across all major missions.

The United States Coast Guard Research & Development Center  is the Coast Guard's sole facility performing research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) in support of the Coast Guard's major mission areas of; Environmental Protection, Maritime Law Enforcement, Protection of Life and Property at Sea and National Defense Preparedness.

The R& D Center's technology research includes: detection, interdiction and prosecution of drug smugglers; cleaning up oil spills; maritime navigation safety; alertness and performance of commercial and CG crews; eliminating invasive species for ship ballast water.

The RDT&E program pursues technologies that provide incremental improvements as well as those with the greatest potential to strategically transform the way the Coast Guard does business. At any given time, the Coast Guard's Research and Development Center is working on more than 80 projects that support the Coast Guard’s short, medium and long range requirements across all major missions.

The RDT&E program is dedicated to maintaining a balanced portfolio of projects that support the Coast Guard’s short, medium and long range requirements across all major missions. Projects fall under six main program areas:
  • Surface - focuses on the offensive and defensive security of our ports, vessels that operate within our ports, and the critical infrastructure within our ports that supports our nation’s economy

  • Air - develops and maintains competencies in relevant test and evaluation methods, manned and unmanned aircraft technologies, sensor and avionics technologies, performance measurement, test data analysis and comprehensive analysis of technology solutions to performance gaps

  • C4ISR - encompasses systems, procedures, and techniques used to collect and disseminate information to include information management, cyber-security, communications, sensor and sensing systems

  • Environmental and Waterways - provides technical expertise in the areas of search and rescue, pollution prevention and response, non-indigenous species, fisheries management, and the automatic information system

  • Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation - minimizes acquisition risk and maximizes mission effectiveness through requirements and/or acquisition analysis, operations research, human systems integration, sensor performance predictions, and system risk analysis

  • Test and Evaluation - provides department, component, program and project level support for requirements verification planning and execution, from the development of Coast Guard guidance through the Major Systems Acquisition Manual to the deck-plate level execution of test procedures

The Submarine Force Museum, located on the Thames River in Groton, Connecticut, maintains the world's finest collection of submarine artifacts. It is the only submarine museum operated by the United States Navy, and as such is the primary repository for artifacts, documents and photographs relating to U.S. Submarine Force history. The museum traces the development of the "Silent Service" from David Bushnell's Turtle, used in the Revolutionary War, to the Ohio and Virginia class submarines.

Originally established as "The Submarine Library" by Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in 1955, the Submarine Force Library and Museum soon gained respect for its archival and research value. In April 1964, the entire collection was donated to the Navy and relocated to the Naval Submarine Base, New London, Groton, Connecticut. The name "Submarine Force Library and Museum" was officially adopted in 1969.

Howdy, Taz! (((hugs)))

Hope you are doing well. The garden here is just about toast
after the freeze and snow of last week.

However, Hubby’s “cover crop” is looking pretty healthy. ‘Bout
time to turn it under, I would imagine.

I’ve just been reading about cover crops..

I’m thinking about expanding the garden and would like to pre-prepare it.

Should have gotten it done in the fall, would have been much more better.
