I stocked up on 25 thru 100 Watt incandescent bulbs last year. Going to get some more 100s tomorrow if they still have them on the shelf.

I’m getting a lot of crappy incandescent bulbs lately. Apparently they’re end of run bulbs.

I bought them and I don’t even need them particularly...the ones no one mentions are the 3 ways...if they have a level over 100 will they be illegal too? don’t know but I have been stocking up.

Will they still be sold in Mexico and Canada? If so, will there be a light bulb cartel shipping illegal bulbs north to sell on city corners and in flea markets?
Why not repackage them as a heating element with this warning..
WARNING: It is a violation of FEDERAL LAW to use this 100 Watt heating element (formerly known as a 100 Watt light bulb) as a light bulb.

Not to seem conspiratorial, but I’ve noticed the same thing. I’ve been buying incandescents for the past year and stocking them. They seem to burn out WAY quicker than usual.

Maybe they can put an expiration date on them like 12/31/11. Along with a warning “do not use after 12/31/11.” That way the store selling them could, possibly, maybe, sort of be covered.
To: boop
I’ve gone through 3 of them on the porch within the last month.

"Ive been buying incandescents for the past year and stocking them. They seem to burn out WAY quicker than usual." I've noticed that problem too. Some 60 watt bulbs are only lasting a month.

For over a year have made it a habit to buy a couple packages of 60w, 75w and 100w when we visit Lowes/Home Depot or, WalMart. We have a whole closet full of the suckers.

Thanks Evil Slayer.
In three weeks and one day it will be illegal to sell a 100-watt incandescent light bulb.

A well intentioned (liberal) friend of my mother changed the bulbs on her front and rear porch and both sides of her garage door to ones that look like this:
One of them melted and fused itself to the lamp base. Luckily, it popped the breaker, or she may have had a serious house fire.

Three bulbs in one month?
Outrageous.
Mine used to last about 6-8 months, depending on the season, and it was kept on a lot.
(In a condo now so no more porch light)

Illegal aliens and welfare parasites will get a pass or even get them doled out to them under some absurd gov-co logic.

I actually like the CFLs for some things but a government mandate is just plain criminal.

On one side of the porch is a bulb I put in when I installed the fixture about 3 years ago and I haven’t changed it since. On the other side I put a bulb in and its been fine till recently and now I’m changing it all the time.

You have one go out yet? If so, how do you get rid of it? Against the law to just through it away. Inquiring minds want to know. ;-)

I’ve wondered about the details of this phaseout after thre 100W in 2012. According to Wiki, other single wattage incandescents will phase out through 2014, ending with the 40W bulb.
Apparently, 3-way bulbs will not be phased out, along with appliance bulbs and some other specialty bulbs, if Wiki is correct.

For a more definitive test, swap the bulbs.
