A well intentioned (liberal) friend of my mother changed the bulbs on her front and rear porch and both sides of her garage door to ones that look like this:

One of them melted and fused itself to the lamp base. Luckily, it popped the breaker, or she may have had a serious house fire.

I actually like the CFLs for some things but a government mandate is just plain criminal.

I am totally against a mandate on bulbs but I like the CFLs.

I have had one burning on the front porch 24/7 for five years.

Our master bath has two fixtures that hold eight bulbs each. Regular bulbs heated the room fifteen degrees over ambient. The CFL’s produce as much light and no heat.

I sure as hell don’t have one in any reading lamps though.

That is the ugliest light bulb. I hope I never run out of the incandescents.
