Why would Barack Obama choose to give a controversial speech attacking American capitalism in Osawatomie, Kansas?

Hang on? Where have I heard that name before? Osawatomie? ….back in the ’70s? Weather Underground terrorists… Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn. Didn’t Obama used to hang out with those guys?

I remember! Osawatomie was the publication of the Weather Underground!

I don't doubt the story, but why in the wide wide world of sports did the Weather Underground use this name?

Osawatomie is a quiet little town in Eastern Kansas known as the home of the Kansas state insane asylum and an obscure pre-Civil War battle between free staters and slavers from Missouri.

My late dad was born near Osawatomie, and went to school there. He left high school 6 months before graduation to enlist in the Navy in 1942, in the wake of Pearl Harbor. My grandmom spent most of her early adult life in Osawatomie, and her funeral was there in 1996.

They were both staunch conservatives, and are probably spinning in their graves over the mess that the Usurper in Chief has caused in the country they loved.

Thanks for posting this. I re-read this blog after Obama went to Osawatomie, because I had bookmarked it before the 2008 election.
The weather underground paper outlines how they will operate and I am sure Obama is using this blueprint.
The similarity of the Weatherunderground logo from that era and the Obama 2008 campaign logo is astounding...but the words are far more condemnatory of what his plans for America is.

At WH Holiday Reception last night, a reporter asked Pres Obama how he liked the BBQ from “We B Smokin’ in Osawatomie, Kansas on Tuesday.

“You had BBQ?” a surprised Mrs Obama chimed in. Pres Obama seemed momentarily flustered.

“You didn’t tell me you had BBQ,” said the First Lady.

Pres Obama explained to his wife that reporters were miffed that they didn’t get any BBQ.

Mrs. Obama would have known about the BBQ drop-by if she read the WH press pool reports – or followed certain Twitter sites.
