Officer Daniel Harless is still receiving paid time off, even after running out of sick days
by Chad D. Baus
The Canton Repository reported recently that a hearing for Officer Daniel Harless, the Canton police officer who was caught on dash cam video berating an Ohio concealed handgun license-holder and threatening to execute him, has been postponed yet again.
The article also reveals that Harless continues to receive sick pay, even though he is out of paid time off, thanks to a special clause in his union contract.
From the article:
A disciplinary hearing for Daniel Harless, the police officer involved in a controversial traffic stop, has been rescheduled for Dec. 15.Meanwhile, Harless remains on paid medical leave even after running out of sick days. Other officers donated part of their sick time, which is permitted under the union contract, said Safety Director Thomas Ream.
Ream said he approved the donations of sick time to Harless, which started less than two weeks ago.
The contract clause has existed for "quite a while," he said, noting that officers have donated time off in the past to an officer who has a serious and extended illness.
Earlier this year, the Police Department's internal affairs division completed an investigation into Harless' behavior during three separate traffic stops each captured on police cruiser video.
In a June 8 stop, video footage shows Harless berating a man he pulled over around 1:30 a.m. on Newton Avenue NW.
Internal affairs investigators accuse Harless of violating Police Department rules and regulations for cooperation with the public, deportment and treatment of persons in custody. Harless could be suspended or fired, Ream said.
Since the first video came to light, two other videos also surfaced, each showing Harless engaged in violent outbursts at traffic stops.
Ream told The Repository the Dec. 1 hearing was pushed back due to a scheduling conflict.
This is the second time Harless' hearing has been postponed. The original hearing date of Sept. 7 was called off after the Canton Police Patrolmen's Association asked for an indefinite extension of the disciplinary hearing. That request was denied.
Back in September, the union president said that due to "post-traumatic stress disorder," Harless could not assist in his defense or participate in the hearing as originally scheduled.

Bucking for disability - a lifetime on the taxpayer teat.
Fire this jackbooted assclown and be done with it.
A union leftist bastard who is abusing his authority as a peace officer to invoke his own theories of gun control.
Fire and prosecute.
From a couple of links in:
In the dash cam video, the officer can be heard unleashing a profanity-laced tirade, yelling “I should blast you in the mouth right now...I’m so close to caving in your head,” and “you’re just a stupid human being!” He continued to berate the license-holder, shouting “You want me to pull mine and stick it to your head?” “People like you don’t deserve to @#$%#$ move throughout public. Period!”
The officer left the driver in the rear of the police vehicle, and returned several minutes later and began shouting at the driver again. “...I swear to God this little bull crap you pulled has me so hot. You know what I should have done? I tell you what I should have done. As soon as I saw your gun I shoulda taken two steps back, pulled my Glock 40, and just put ten bullets in your ass and let you drop. And I wouldn’t of lost any sleep. Do you understand me? And he would have been a nice witness as I executed you because you’re stupid.”

I don't have a problem with this clown spending the rest of his life on the taxpayer teat as long as it's in a Federal prison for violation of 18 USC 242.

They get to hide their identities behind ski masks just like bank robbers, plus he probably loves shooting dogs.
I disagree.
He needs to do some hard time.
I remember this. The citizen tried to inform the officer that he was carrying (as required), and the officer shouted him down each time. Then, when the officer discovered the citizen was carrying, he want splodeynannas.
Fire, prosecute. Maybe on more than one count, more than one citizen may be a victim.
They’re still waiting for him to get the ‘roids to get out of his system. They don’t want him to go berserk in the courtroom. But that would be fun!
It explicitly doesn’t apply to whitey, which is why it was not invoked in the Duke Rape Hoax.
The CCW permit holder should sue the city of Canton and the officer personally. His pension should go to the driver. Make the retired officer look for night work as a janitor as the driver was doing (so he says).
Those tirades of his, if uttered by anyone but an Only One, would be considered terroristic threats. Maybe he should be in Gitmo.
At the very least, he should be in jail so as to protect the public from someone who clearly cannot control himself and is therefor a danger to the public, and also to set an example for other Only Ones who think that being given a uniform and a shiny piece of metal to pin to one’s chest makes them the local dictator. Frankly, police unions everywhere should demand that this piece of garbage be fired and jailed, as any defense of him puts his defenders in his shoes.
Nothing remotely like this occurred, but I was not happy they placed my weapon (in its Kydex holster) on the hood of my vehicle, where it may have slid, scratched the car, and damaged the weapon.
The inspection went without incident and my weapon/permit were returned. Nevertheless, I was nervous and wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings. Can't imagine what would have happened if I had some maniac screaming at me like he did.
A lot of people wondered why Harless was a cop at all: he had been investigated by Internal Affairs of that PD something like 13 times AND CLEARED EACH TIME (in many cases after being accused of stuff JUUUST like this).
That says A LOT about that entire PD, and about the Chief:
I saw an interview with the Chief, and he treated ANY gently-worded question about ANYTHING as a threat, and he held himself that way.
I am COMPLETELY sure that the Chief LIKED the way Harless went about doing police work.
I hope this PD IS COMPLETELY CLEANED OUT OF MONEY.
The only thing different in THIS case of behavior by Harless was that it got on videotape —nothing more.
“..he had been investigated by Internal Affairs of that PD something like 13 times AND CLEARED EACH TIME (in many cases after being accused of stuff JUUUST like this).”
If this guy gets fired, he could easily find work with just about Florida law enforcement agency.
Thank God there are organizations that monitor this kind of behavior by cops. If possible, the poor guy that got berated and harassed by the fruitcake cop should file every kind of lawsuit possible until he gets a load of money.
