And that thread was in Breaking News for over an hour. Then it was bumped off. Now this thread is in Breaking News?

Must have had a shift change at Mod Central.

In contrast to the anti-military bias of M*A*S*H, the "Glenn Miller Story" was respectful of our armed services. That film has so many memorable moments but this is among my favorites. St. Louis Blues March. Although it pokes a wee bit of fun at a rather stuffy colonel, General Arnold sure comes through at the end! :-)

I liked him in the crew chief role he had in Strategic Air Command.

Oh my goodness. I was just looking up his info on Wikipedia yesterday.

I listen to old Dragnet radio shows, where he was a frequent guest actor, but not yet Friday’s partner. You can always tell his distinctive voice.

Well, RIP, Harry, RIP.

Harry Morgan has been one of my favorite supporting actors in movies through the years. I loved him as Sheriff Thibbodo in “The Shootist” — “The day they lay you away, what I do on your grave won’t pass for flowers.”

“High Noon”
“Bend of the River”
“How the West Was Won” (great movie if you want to feel good about the building of the United States”)
“The Ox-Bow Incident”

96! And to think I remember him from watching “December Bride”. Time just flies...

One of my favorite Harry Morgan characters was the clueless sheriff in Flim-Flam Man.

“He’s got one of them amphibivious vee-hicles!”

He was General Grant in “How the West Was Won” in the Civil War scene. John Wayne played General Sherman.

The number of big-star cameo roles in “How the West Was Won” is truly amazing (in addition to Harry Morgan). So many of my old favorites are all gone now. They truly “don’t make ‘em like they used to.”
John Wayne
Carl Malden
Gregory Peck
Jimmy Stuart
Carroll Baker (yum!)
George Peppard
Debbie Reynolds
Eli Wallach
Lee J. Cobb
Richard Widmark
Walter Brennan
Andy Devine
Agnes Moorehead
Spencer Tracy (narrator)
Lee Van Cleef (uncredited)

I don’t know how many FReepers receive MeTV - I get it on a Free Antenna/Digital Channel. Anyway...

MeTV will be airing special episodes of M*A*S*H all this week in tribute to “Colonel Potter”, Harry Morgan. This starts tomorrow (Sunday) night, and runs through next Friday (or Sat.).

I’m definitely going to try to catch these. I don’t remember what time it airs, or if it would even be at the same time in other’s area, or not.
