When teen hoop star Tayshana Murphy was chased and shot dead by gang members in her project in Morningside Heights in September, few knew her death was a double tragedy.
Despite being one of the citys best high-school basketball players and a likely WNBA draft pick, Murphy had been drawn into a deadly street crew and was killed because of a rivalry with another gang.
Cops now have revealed that Murphy was caught in a troubling new trend: good girls recruited by neighborhood gangs into lives of violence, where carrying weapons and committing crimes is as commonplace as shooting a free throw.

Death by Murphy Brown.
Too bad they won’t go after each other until there is only one left standing
I hate cities, but Agenda 21 is going to jam us all into massive government housing projects run like prisons. And prisons always have gangs.
They recruit Good Girls.
Yeah Right.
The city never looked so good as it did in my rear-view mirror...

^^
Oh, please. Makes it sound like it was against her will.
I think their working definition of “good” is “not in trouble with the law up to that point.”
Squaws.......come out and playyyyyaaayyyy......
Eh....just doesn't have the same ring to it.
In my old neighborhood the girls fought each other with the best of'em. They carried razor blades in their ratted, hair-sprayed within an inch of their life hair-dooz (white).
My father moved us out of the neighborhood when I got jumped...by a gang of girls (black). They were after my grocery money. I ran for my life and, as you can figure out, I was a VERY fast runner.
Girls were mean, tough, nasty, vicious and as bent as the boys. NOTHING has changed.
Hey, I wonder if any of then became politicians....
Gangs are just to fill the vacuum created by the destruction of the traditional family.
I guess those in NYC should carry around a metal rod and beat those girls in the head into submission like the parolee MacDonalds worker did!
What does Bernie Goetz have to say about this new NYC development?
Me: This is Jack Hydrazine with FRTV and I’m here with Bernie Goetz (aka the ‘subway vigilante’ and owner of Vigilante Electronics) taking a ride on the No. 2 express train through the city that never sleeps. How’s everything today, Bernie?
Bernie: Fine. How’s by you?
Me: Excellent! Say, Bernie, are you familiar with today’s news about the rise of girl gangs in NYC?
Bernie: I’ve been noticing this growing trend for the past few years. It took the Libs this long to broadcast that old news? No wonder they called it the Dinosaur Media Complex! They are always behind the 8 ball when it comes to informing the public on rising criminal trends.
Me: In your opinion, Bern, what’s the best way the average citizen in NYC can best prepare to deal with this problem when this kind of trouble finds them in subway or other location in the Big Apple?
Bernie: Buy a gun, learn how to shoot it, get to the range as often as you can, know the laws in regards to them, be willing to use it in a life and death situation, shoot to kill ONLY, when in doubt pray and spray, or go Mozambique-style if possible. And don’t forget to keep a knife on you as back up or carry another gun? The more the better! The bigger the caliber the better!
Me: Are you carrying right now, Bern?
Bernie: No comment.
Me: If right now we were to be accosted by one of these notorious girl gangs would you shoot them?
Bernie: No comment. I gotta be careful of what I say, Jack! Just because I endorse carrying concealed doesn’t stop that idiot Bloomberg from wanting to arrest me for such. He won’t but I like to stay discrete.
Me: Well, there you have it right from the horse’s mouth. Live from downtown NYC this is Jack Hydrazine with FRTV. Back to you, JimRob!
“fill the vacuum created by the destruction of the traditional family”
You got it. Feral tribes get formed. A dysfunctional family is better than no family. Few can make it as lone wolves.
Kids EVERYWHERE, cities, burbs, country, wherever, WILL behave if there are interested parents, preferably two. Fatherless boys AND girls have trouble wherever they happen to be, in my opinion. Contrary to what Murphy Brown and the man-hating libbers say, fathers are ESSENTIAL.
Mothers can't do it by themselves, usually; it takes two, as God planned. Divorce has MUCH to do with fractured families. Divorce-remarry-divorce-remarry = kids tossed from pillar to post: fodder for trouble, drugs, etc.
Also, there were just as many extended families in city neighborhoods as there were anywhere else. And, sadly, there are just as FEW extended families now in cities, burbs and small towns, just by the nature of the fractured, transient American families.
In my urban neighborhood I was known and taken care of by any stay-at-home mother. My father was ill and worked only when he could. So my mother worked. I was taken care of by a stay-at-home neighborhood lady named Daisy.
Am I wrong?
Idaho and Montana aren’t relocating anyone to big cities. Get your land out there now. You can get homes that are more self-sufficient/off the grid setups too.
Don't look back, you may turn into a pillar of salt.
Of course! Who would gainsay that?
A couple of points from a retired member of the NYPD who now teaches high school.
1)This is hardly new and hardly a trend.
2)They left one, key word out of this article. LESBIAN. These gangs are predominately lesbian in nature and “more attractive” recruits are viewed as “trophies”. It is not uncommon to see these “couples” on the streets, very often, with their children, from a previous relationship of the “more attractive” member.
Sorry if I ruined anyone’s dinner, but its something I see just about every day. I even remember, at least 5 years ago, there being a lesbian gang in the MIDDLE school across the street from my school.
