If a spate of recent allegations proves true, Hollywood may have a hideous epidemic on its hands. The past two weeks have brought three separate reports of alleged child sexual abuse in the entertainment industry.
Martin Weiss, a 47-year-old Hollywood manager who represented child actors, was charged in Los Angeles on Dec. 1 with sexually abusing a former client. His accuser, who was under 12 years old during the time of the alleged abuse, reported to authorities that Weiss told him "what they were doing was common practice in the entertainment industry." Weiss has pleaded not guilty.
On Nov. 21, Fernando Rivas, 59, an award-winning composer for “Sesame Street,” was arraigned on charges of coercing a child “to engage in sexually explicit conduct” in South Carolina. The Juilliard-trained composer was also charged with production and distribution of child pornography.
Registered sex offender Jason James Murphy, 35, worked as a casting agent in Hollywood for years before his past kidnapping and sexual abuse of a boy was revealed by the Los Angeles Times on Nov. 17. Murphy’s credits include placing young actors in kid-friendly fare like "Bad News Bears," "The School of Rock," "Cheaper by the Dozen 2” and the forthcoming "Three Stooges.”

I think about that myself, everytime I see these movies. Actors “pretending” to do things any decent person can’t do without being affected. I don’t watch movies with scenes like that, I consider it prostitution- being paid to commit sexual acts. And to subject children to it is horrendous.
Several years ago, a Nicole Kidman movie called “Birth” came under a lot of scrutiny for this. The thing is, the scrutiny started AFTER the child had already been molested.
Let me guess. It’s exclusively homos on young boys. So it’s homosexual perversion. Am I tracking right here or is pedophilia different than homosexual assualt?

Every now and then they have commercials regarding the old Shirley Temple films. My impression is that the only people who might be interested in them would be pedophiles.
Well, now we know why Hollywood has raced as fast as it can towards the destruction of the family, the sexualization of young children, and the total removal of sexual mores. It’s to provide fodder for the deviates in this industry.

Nonsense. Do you think there were enough pedophile in the United States to make Shirley Temple the huge star she was? Most of them are cute movies with, compared to today’s schlock, intelligent plots and good writing and acting. My daughters enjoy the ones we get from Netflix, and I don’t find them disagreeable if I happen to be in the room.

It’s easy to see. Watch what happens when this is discussed around the water cooler. When you point out the difference btwn pedophilia and pederasty (in most of these cases) -COUNT the number of surprised looks. LISTEN to the attempts at minimization - if not outright denial following the surprise...it is most upsetting.
Are you kidding? You must be a man because I LOVE the old Shirley Temple movies. I've been having to hold myself back from buying that heavily advertised set of Shirley Temple films I keep seeing on the commercials.
Isn't it refreshing to see a commercial that isn't pharmaceutical/medical/disease/health-related? So rare these days.

I don’t mind kids acting. For instance, the Cosby show, I don’t think the kids were damaged doing that. At least not officially on the set.
But when they are put in “sexual” “traumatic” or “abusive” situations, it makes my blood boil.
I think of those teen boys made to pretend they are gay and flirting and finally having some sort of sex on “Glee” recently. I do not watch the show, I just read about it. Criminal. The parents, the director, the screenwriters, all of them, absolutely CRIMINAL.

Agree with almost all the comments on this thread - we’ve known this for a long time - it’s just that we’ve only peeked under the rock instead of lifting up the rock and seeing all the creepy crawlies crawling around under there. Time to lift that rock up once and for all!

Anyone sending their child to Hollywood should know the old saying about sleeping your way to the top also applies to the kids.
I wrote that it was my impression. Buy the series if you want, defend the whole era in which they appeared, but you still won’t change my impression.

I think the poster was implying that the only reason anyone would watch one was to fantasize about sex with a pre-pubescent girl. However, as I said, that’s idiotic ... like saying that was the only reason people read Dickens’ sentimental tales in their day. One either appreciates the tap-dancing or not, of course, but many of Shirley Temple’s early movies are cute comedies or involving dramas on their own terms, as well as (up to 80 years later) interesting as period pieces.
As a generalization, I find movies from the 1930s and 1940s much more intelligent and adult (as opposed to adolescent) than almost anything made today. For one thing, they tended to realistically depict the bad consequences to children of adult irresponsibility.
