Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Team Chicago is my second.
I don't think Mitt i.e. the international banker's contingency plan will be the nominee.
Dems get special dispensation that Republicans do not. If Cain has fessed up and told the truth he might have survived.
I guess I'm just an undecided, unknowing devoted masochist that figures that 0bama hasn't beat me up enough.
Time to start a write in campaign...
NOTA for President.
*None of the above
Just prepare to campaign and vote for Lingle next year!
What is the truth?
Me thinks that would have been decided by the MSM.
Until voters quit following red herrings that the MSM pour out into the political fray we will never get a true and capable conservative leader.
This just confirms that the media decides who the R candidate is. If they can pressure Sarah Palin to not run, they can run anybody out of town on a rail.
to be exact he “suspended” his campaign (for those that are trading the quit contract on Intrade)
:)
Sad day in American Politics. Herman Cain has many great ideas. Between the liberal media and his own foibles, he’s finished.
Okay conservatives, whine, moan, cry in your beers, we have other candidates regardles of their weaknesses. And this navymom can’t wait to VOTE OBAMA OUT AND NO SMEAR CAMPAIGN, NO FLAWED GOP CANDIDATE, NO AMOUNT OF BITCHING OR GRIPING OVER HOW LIBERAL OUR GOP NOMINEE IS WILL STOP THIS MILITARY MOM FROM CASTING A VOTE TO SEND BARAK OBAMA BACK TO CHICAGO!
AND THE REST OF YOU NEED TO ADOPT THE SAME ATTITUDE.
Cain was my guy.
The simple truth is, its time to get rid of Obama. All else is secondary.
Yes our candidates are seriously lacking but it is what it is.
Don’t vote 0bama. You are conservative first, aren’t you?
Wait till they start on your Willie Mitty, RomneyBot..
Theres a closet full of real skeletons...
I’m sick of this “no executive experience” notion, used against Cain before he dropped out, now against Bachmann.
Obama didn’t have any either, and he was able to get elected. So that proves its not a deal breaker.
And by the way, neither does the KNOWN adulterer, excuse me I mean Newt. Remember, he was “just a Representative” too. Granted, the Speaker of the House, but that’s not technically speaking “executive experience”.
Besides, again, I thought we here on FR, and in the TEA party movement were all about being OUTside the beltway? I guess when the full implications of that nice little platitude smack us in reality, we fold like a house of cards.
It’s just as I predicted long ago, it’s all coming to fruition: the TEA party movement, just like all other politically/human based “movements” is failing to live up to its states goals and objectives NOT because the goals were in any way WRONG, but because they ultimately are not the answer to what (or really Who) every man seeks. But I digress.
Newt is no better. I’m not supporting him. It’s Bachmann at this point, or bust.
I read that Uruguay is supposed to be nice, but I am going to stay here and fight to the death, which probably won’t be too far off.
I still support Cain, and think all the accusations are awful. But, Cain’s wife is ill with heart disease. I understand his difficult decision, and will never vote for a democrat.
I agree with your post #28.
A little rational thinking is called for here. I believe Cain had an idea he was on thin ice and that’s why he did the Lincoln style debate with Newt back in October...Newt has a solid record going back to the “contract with America” and one thing we have GOT TO HAVE with the next President is someone who can HERD THAT CORRUPT GROUP OF SHEEP CALLED CONGRESS!!! Newt has BEEN THERE, DONE THAT and been successful...MOST OF ALL, and this has got to be the key factor, HE’S HERDED THOSE SHEEP TO BALANCE THE FEDERAL BUDGET...So, let’s just see the realities of this race, and for the sake of AMERICA, get out and VOTE for NEWT - OH, and ONE MORE THING - NEWT COULD REALLY USE SOME HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS OVER BEHIND CONSERVATIVE TALK RADIO...SO far, Rush, Hannity, Bill Bennett, etc have not gotten behind a candidate so NOW WE NEED THEM TO UNITE and GET THIS THING IN PERSPECTIVE! THeir voices are the only alternative to the liberal media THAT IS INTENT ON DESTROYING THIS GREAT REPUBLIC...What I say to our conservative friends is “speak up or just shut up” “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party” !!
I hate the MSM, but Cain’s problems start with Cain. He gave them the ammo to kill himself with. If you can’t beat the MSM you won’t beat entrenched D.C. where the real battle is.
Yes he got elected but his lack of executive experience shows because he let’s everyone else do what he’s supposed to (not talking about his disastrous ideas here, just his ability to run the country). My country hangs in the balance. Cain was an outsider with executive experience, the perfect combo for me.

So please tell this NAVY Vet what we have left?
Romney is a Northeastern Republican, who like McCain would use Conservatives and then stab us in the back.
Newt is a lifelong Washington Insider and would be nothing more than a lighting rod for Democrats to regain the House.
The rest of the field is nothing more than retreads and kooks, who are bottom feeders anyway.
No matter how I look at it now in anyway, Conservatives get screwed and Obama or at least his policies get a second term!
