FDA Set to Ban Your Supplements
Big Health Report ^ | December 1, 2011 | BHR

The FDA has issued a proposed mandate that represents the greatest threat to dietary supplements since 1994. Back in the early 1990s, consumers were so alarmed by FDA bullying that they staged a massive revolt. The result was that Congress passed a law prohibiting the FDA from banning popular nutrients (as the agency had threatened to do).

There was, however, a loophole in the 1994 law. The FDA was given authority to regulate ingredients introduced after October 15, 1994.

It has been 17 years, but the FDA just issued draconian proposals as to how it intends to regulate what it now calls “new dietary ingredients”. You can find the FDA Draft Guidance on New Dietary Ingredients (NDI’s) here. If implemented, some of the most effective nutrients you are taking will be removed from the market. This includes many fish oil formulas and natural plant extracts. A detailed analysis of the FDA Draft Guidance is available here.

These oppressive rules are exactly what the 1994 law (DSHEA) sought to prevent. The FDA is using its authority in direct violation of Congressional intent.

In order for these ingredients you are using today to return to the market, the FDA will require manufacturers to conduct outrageously expensive studies using absurdly high doses, in some situations multiplied by a “safety factor” up to 2,000-times the recommended dosage on a per product basis.

The FDA defines dietary supplements as being “new” if they were introduced after October 15, 1994. That means that even certain nutrients that have been safely used over the course of three decades will be subject to the FDA’s oppressive policies that mandate costly animal testing.

the govt doesn’t have to prosecute millions....it just needs to have constant all encompassing laws so when they want to put Mr.Joe Patriot/Christian/pub away, they’ll have a reason....

“I dare you to stick a scrubbing pad in your significant other’s mouth. You'll be sleeping on the couch for months!”

Not only that, but your voice is going to be significantly higher after being neutered.

MORE government overreach; the problem is that the government has become so unrestrained in its nonsense that it’s impossible to know where to begin on rolling back BS regulations.

The ATF has declared scrubber pads to be a machine gun part.

I had read that as well. The 3000 other normal actions that were criminalized (possible hyperbole) during the same time frame have yet to be imposed or popularized. We are all criminals. If someone were to go out into the wilderness and meditate they would probably be breaking a half dozen laws. The entire population is guilty right here right now in the US. Selective prosecution is the method of population control as we sit.

Are they going to ban tennis balls, too?

Don't know about tennis balls, but not too long ago, some Dem proposed that baking soda be subject to the same requirement for ID and signature as Sudafed and Claritin-D (I guess it can be used in making meth). Oddly, in a moment of lucidity, Congress didn't pass it.

As an addendum, I was actually placed in the back of a police car (detained) one time for meditating at the wrong spot. Over a decade ago but it did happen. I really liked that spot, but so did the bored/hiding/napping cops. Had to stop going there (public land). It was criminal of me. It’s only getting worse.

I remember McCain pushing for something similar a while back. This will end up like the light bulb. We will have choices regulated away.

I thought they did something similar in Europe. Has something to do with the UN’s codex rules for supplements. Wanting global requirements.

Scrubbing pads? What kind of scrubbing pads? I’ll make sure I stock up even if I don’t use them. I have enough 100 watt bulbs in storage to supply a small town. Enough to leave to 2 generations. For over a year every time they are on sale I buy all they have. Even when they weren’t on sale I bought cases. I’m not using their stupid new bulbs and they can KMA.

I’m running out of room to hide stuff.... The lightbulbs, yup, mostly 100 watt, are taking all the room.

We did put some of the new Commie bulbs outside, porch lights, to trick the NKVD and any collaborator neighbors (we know all of our immediate neighbors, but you never know who lives a mile away).

A lot of the prescription drugs people receive from their Quack Doctor leads to cancer in 5 years.

Just quiz people that have cancer if they were on prescription drugs.

I don’t think big phrma is encroaching on vitamins. No money there.

More money in Nicotine alternatives.
