Results from an American Research Group poll of likely GOP primary voters in Florida: Newt Gingrich (50 percent), Mitt Romney (19 percent), Herman Cain (10 percent), Jon Huntsman (3 percent), Rick Perry and Ron Paul (2 percent), Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Buddy Roemer (1 percent).
I think he benefits by sitting back and letting Romney just exhaust himself going negative. Romney’s already in big trouble as IA, SC and FL seem almost out reach. But if he starts to get really negative he could just totally burn out and end up really ruining his reputation, such as it is.
It was Mitt’s negative attacks in 08 that really turned a lot of people off of him. Especially McCain. I wouldn’t be surprised if he does it again.
The next week or two should be interesting. If Mitt doesn’t really destroy Newt, it’ll be over in short order. In a sense he’s forced to go negative. But in going negative he starts to look like a jerk and upset people.
Republicans and conservatives don’t like that. Remember how it hurt McCain when he did that ad comparing W to Bill Clinton in SC. It finished him. McCain still might have won SC if not for that. Remember what happened when Mitt attacked Bob Dole in FL before the 08 primary. The race was pretty much tied. After that, McCain pulled ahead and won. BTW, not a good move for Mitt to attack a senior in FL.
I don’t know if Mitt will be able to avoid the bait. Ive already seen some of his media people comparing Newt to Obama, to Clinton. He does that at a debate and you can turn the lights out.
Mitt also has this annoying habit of when he’s questioned about flips he says that other GOP Presidents did the same thing. That Reagan flipped on abortion, Bush did ,etc... He just comes off looking very bad. I don’t thinking anyone likes it. I bet most Republicans are saying “who the f does this guy think he is, going after Reagan and Bush?”
I don’t think having Christie go after Newt is a good move, either. I was always surprised that a guy who seemed so savvy like Christie and in line for bigger things would hitch his wagon to Romney. Made no sense. Romney should at least be man enough and do it himself. Of course, Newt has some potential endorsements that would vastly overshadow any of Romney’s and likely end the race, if it’s not over already.
Again, the next couple weeks should be exciting. It’s now or never time.
Time to send in the Newtanator !
yep, a Palin endorsement of Newt would be the final nail in the coffin for Romney :)
Oh happy days!
No doubt she would be excellent in that role but I just don’t think she wants to bring her family to DC. Smelly old DC compared to the last frontier with it’s wide open spaces. And Todd has the family fishing business and she helps him. I could be wrong, circumstances change.
Agreed! That Romneycare thing and his stance on abortion, etc. make him a palpable candidate for conservative Republicans! /S
Newt knocks out Romney and blasts everyone else because he is last man standing.
And then has a stroke.
THEN what America?
Who you gonna call?
This whole vaudeville stage show is nothing sheep herders herding the sheep with fireworks, everyone either goes ooh! or awe! or runs the other way.
Best to be the silent majority, do not partake or acknowledge any polls, if your inner voice tells you what is right go with it, don’t treat this like having to buy whats left on the shelves during a hurricane evacuation.
On F&F - Romney asked if he sent Chris Christie out to bash Newt. He avoided the question.
Mumbling, nattering, self-absorbed and not ‘the right stuff’ at all.
Now on Fannie & Freddie - ‘I just don’t think Newt has the background to lead the country - America needs a leader’
There is no doubt in my mind Mitt is behind this and behind Cain’s. I despise Mitt - he’s evil and wants to force his evil on us and the evil media is helping him.
Ding Dong the Mitt is dead. I’m not a Gingrich fan but if he can keep the nomination from Romney then I’m with him till things change. I’d really prefer Bachman, Perry or Paul since Cain has cratered but we have what we have.
Cain definitely cratered but Perry’s chances? oh man they don’t look good at all.
“Romney is going to lose. He can’t raise his numbers, and surprisingly they’ve even gone down. “
There is just one problem. Romney’s numbers are low but they are consistent. So he is building up $ and his ground team. The others don’t seem to keep their support for very long. First Perry was the one then Cain and now Newt has his turn...for now.
“Looks like Newt gains on Cains scandals. He also pulled from Romney which I think is important in a state like FL.”
I happen to think he also gains from the fact that people are tired of Cain’s 999 plan and uninformed responses on other issues. They thought Cain was supposed to be really smart. That’s why he soared after Perry stumbled and fumbled.
Sure he has a math/comp sci degree but he dumbed himself down. On the other hand, people get the impression that Newt knows what he is talking about.
I like that - good for Newt.
I don’t see how a sore loser becomes a ‘third party’. Also, Ron Paul’s not a spoiled brat - he won’t sink the nominee.
It’s like Newt watched all those 5pm Glenn Beck shows. Took notes. Paid attention. Understands. The rest of the pack is way, way behind on understanding just what Obama is. Perry, for example, thinks it’s a Washington Problem.
Adios, slick Willard.
