I don't have time to write about my reaction, but I would be interested in the perspective of my fellow Freepers.
Personally, I thought Newt was VERY impressive, and for a whole hour.
I still haven't decided whom to support (not that it matters, since the Massachusetts primary is not going be a game changer anyway).
I have been in Cain's camp, but I am reassessing in light of what I perceive as the Cain team's mis-management of the whole sex attack thing.
Also, rightly or wrongly, unless Cain manages to win a very sympathetic public vindication in a very short time I am seriously doubting his ability to continue in this race.
I'm sad about that. But I was greatly impressed by Newt last nite for a lot of reasons I don't have time to get into just now.
What did alla y'alls think?
It's a sad commentary that we're faced with the lackluster lineup we have, but that's the reality of the situation.
That said, we've reached a stage where millions of Americans have completely had it with Washington, and they're ready to either bolt the party, boycott the election, or rebel by writing in their choice for president.
People can rail against that sort of thinking all they want, but that too, is the reality of the situation. Something's got to give.
Newt can sing the tune, but he's proven that he'll change it in a heartbeat, and sing with the left at the drop of a hat. The man hasn't proven to me that he's got core convictions and the courage to stand with them, no matter what. That quirk of personality scares me in a leader. It's absolutely his worst trait, and completely wrong for the task at hand.
Know, eye mist it.
Newt is to Reagan as Elmer Gantry is to Billy Graham.
It needs LINKS!
I watch the show and followed comments on Twitter. LOTS of people liked what Newt was saying.
We watched it. Hannity did Newt a big favor by allowing him to address some of the misnomers and also a few of his previous controversial decisions. I found him to be pretty straightforward and I thought he cleared the air. I’m satisfied with Newt’s explanations and I think he is very serious about his 21st Century Contract with America. Its a good plan.
What a condescending mischaracterization.
The mindset of those who've strongly supported Angle, O'Donnell, Cain, and Palin, is one that demands unswerving firmness in a candidate's allegiance to conservatism, and an unshakeable commitment to this nation's Founding Principles.
Wow... he did all that on Hannity last night?
Newt...with good words and fair speeches deceives the minds of the simple.
What is the source for your list? It’s all over the net. Do you know who created it? The Paulbots seems to love it.
Newt recommended Toffler’s book because it is a warning of what can go wrong.
The Tofflers are ‘futurists’.
Your post is dishonest - you are implying that Newt Gingrich is advocating the abominable. Shameful.
Exactly why I hate ‘lists’ like this. Overwhelm your opponents with BS they won’t/can’t take the time to respond to.
Like I said...lazy.
The Gingrich interview was full of ideas, not platitudes and evasions.
High points: he’d dismantle Obama’s govt, starting on day one, on hour one the “czars” would be gone. Our embassy in Israel would be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
He will humiliate and demolish Obama in the campaign. His slogan, Hannity asked? “Can you take four more years of this?”
Also, Gingrich knows his way around Congress blindfolded. That’s going to be helpful even if it’s a Republican Congress and Senate.
You actually respond to the question posted at the beginning of the thread instead of spamming it like all the other threads you've posted this same list to.
I didn't see his appearance and would love to see a conversation amongst those who did rather than some troll's attempt at thread hijacking. Because believe it or not, we're not stupid...we got it the first time you posted it.
Between you and Windflier's acting as a nattering naybob of negativity...sheesh 53 posts and still little commentary about what was ACTUALLY SAID.
Thanks for the hijack, boys...
Thank you for offering insight into the actual subject at hand.
Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see your forum rules posted.
It's an open forum, friend. People are going to comment on the subject matter of any thread in whatever way suits them.
Having re-read your comment that anyone whose beliefs “go back to Plato” is blackened with the irremovable taint of the dreaded “elitism”, I stand by my statement.
