Herman Cain’s Attorney [Basically] Admits Affair - Studies in failures to communicate.

In breaking news this afternoon, a Georgia woman is claiming that she had a 13-year affair with Herman Cain. She says she has documents (whatever they might be) which can back it up. In what can only be described as the guiltiest-looking no-comment statement in the history of politics, Cain’s lawyer offered this absurd response (especially hilarious parts in bold):

*snip*

One of two things is true about this statement. Either Mr. Cain and his attorney are basing their views on what is an appropriate subject of media scrutiny for political candidates on the way politics work on another planet (perhaps another galaxy, even), or they are basically trying to telegraph to us that he completely did it. After following Cain’s campaign for the last several months, I would say either is equally likely. After all, basically the only reason a Presidential candidate would take a principled stand against admitting or denying that they had a multi-year affair on the woman to whom they are still married is if they have some principled objection to lying about having completely done it. And if that wasn’t the intended message, then Cain’s communications operation is even worse than we thought – which is really saying something.

Mit has his own sites. He can defend himself there.

Our purpose is not to hone arguments on behalf of that guy.

I am a political realist. I know someone that was begged to run for Wisconsin senate seat. CEO of a fortune 100 company. Came up through the ranks in sales and marketing. He knew he couldn’t pass the mustard of being vetted. That is what is screwed up in this country. Get someone that has no warts in their personal lif and we get people like Mitt Romney.

Cain has taken major lumps over these last bogus allegations. This one is going to stick much harder. This is reality.

So you think Romney's claim to fame should be that he (supposedly) hasn't cheated on his wife?

“Either it was an acquaintance or an affair. It depends on whom is telling the truth.”

Yep. I can tell you one thing though, my wife would have been in front of a camera, REALLY PISSED ABOUT ME BEING SLAMMED LIKE THIS in 10 seconds (or less)if it was my friend Ellen or our friend Myrna, or......any of my woman friends. I don’t have any 13 year legit “relationships” with men or women who my wife doesn’t know.

You know I’m right, as does any other married man here...

“But Newt?”

If not Newt then who? When this all started I wanted one of the conservatives. Palin bailed. Demint never started. Bachman just has no traction. Who? The clock is ticking. I trust Newt far more the Mitt. The first real votes will be counted in just over 30 days. Who?

“...Get ready for Obama’s second term”

I am already expecting it based on the Republican Junior Varsity team we see before us now.

How sad, Obummer, most likely the worst president ever, will win by default.

“Ah, the voice of a creep in the dark of night!”

A little premature speculation on you part, my dear.

..."But if this sordid story is true, he a hypocrite and a phony. There is no honest way around it. And it doesn’t matter that Clinton was too; we all know that. The Left was cool with that, but we conservatives expect more from our leaders than lies and claptrap. "

I agree, I was Herman's biggest supporter through all this, but now, I'm sorry, I am dumping him if this is true. We do not need this crap, very bummed and sorry for his wife. I really , really wanted to see him run on the GOP ticket against Obummer.

There is a lot of truth to what you say. No one is perfect, and some of the very wise among us have screwed up many, many times.

The thing is, I don't think past mistakes alone prevent someone from being in politics. The public is forgiving. Assuming some reasonable amount of time has elapsed, they are really PAST mistakes, and the candidate is upfront about them, people can recover and go on to become successful leaders. The problem is when candidates are still doing unsavory things or are lying about their past. If someone enters the race and admits up front they weren't faithful to their wife a decade ago, but since that time they've shaped up and become a better person, then those indiscretions are likely to be forgiven. Look at Newt. We all know his past, yet it appears even many traditional conservatives may overlook his errors. Time has passed, he has admitted his mistakes, etc.

Well That’s my problem.

Personally I could care less if Herm got a little on the side.

What taers into me is that no one has dug into Obama’s relationship with Larry sinclair.

Here is a man who has been saying for years that he and Obama had sex, and yet no one pays him any attention, and yet we will listen to a woman who alledgedly screwed a guy for 13 years and was happy doing it.

What’s weird is that Herman and his attorney are not on the same page. This attorney isn’t helping with his silly comment.

At this point I have no reason to believe the woman who is another lawsuit junkie, like the other women. It is possible Herman thought she was a friend and she is hoping to sell her story. She lost one lawsuit filed by her female business partner, who also accused Ms. White of stalking her.

I’ll wait for this story to play out.

I agree we shouldn't rush to judgement.
Especially since we here can't even seem to quantify the accusations.
She said they had a long term “affair”.
He said they didn't.
One of them is lying.
I really hope she is quickly proven to be the liar.
If she IS the liar, Cain will win the GOP nomination, and becomes our next POTUS.
If not, Cain should bow out of the GOP race tomorrow.

And yet Herman Cain was helping her financially by his own admission. Why? If she is a non credible liar with a super checkered past, why was he friends with this type of woman and why was he giving her financial assistance? Does that really make sense to you? There is obviously a lot more here.

Yes, like her husband. She has two children, there must be one somewhere and we should be hearing from him shortly.

You raise excellent questions, meanwhile. I would add, why didn't the financial assistance prevent her eviction?
