and who said they were in favor of “breaking up families”??
The political hyperbole is amazing.
The Reagan amnesty thing was an EPIC FAILURE and we all know it. Now it will be used as a model for the future?
wow.

My father never would have broken up a family No one is breaking up a family. Real families stick together and all move to their legal home - see how that works?
Families live in foreign countries and then move back home all the time.

I cannot imagine President Reagan taking a position sayin, “You committed a felony, but since you have children we won’t do anything to you.”

As President Reagan was the only President in the last 40 years to pass Amnesty, this is not much of a surprise. I still love Reagan but don’t want Newt for President.

It's wrong no matter who would have supported it. Amnesty for illegal immigrants was one of the biggest failures of Reagan's Presidency, so how does this help Gingrich exactly? Lets take all of Reagan's failures, without any of his many successes, and put them into a candidate and you still have a crap candidate.

Didn't we cover this crap two days ago on FR? Why post this again? BTW, Michael Reagan has spent the last 4 years as a pimp-for-hire for the same
shysters who torpedoed the Minutemen (Diener Consulting, Phil Sheldon, Gary Kreep, Randy J. Goodwin et al). He has zero credibility.

I doubt seriously he would.

Well, times are different now, Gipper. We have a MUCH HIGHER number of Illegals now, and they WILL change the demographics of this country the moment they are legalized. They MUST be stopped.

Michael Reagan: My Father Would Support Gingrich's Position On Immigration Even if he had 25 years of hingsight to guide his position???
One of Reagan's greatest attributes was learning from his mistakes. That's why he switched from being a RAT to a Republican.

RR was decieved and bamboozled in 1986. I doubt he’d have made the same mistake again. He signed the Simpson/Mazzoli bill thinking 300,000 would be given amnesty in exchange for a secure border and an employee screening system (the I-9 process). What he got instead was 3,000,000 amnesties, no secure border and an I-9 system that was and still is easy to get around.

I remember way back in the 60s I was watching one of the “Met the Press” type shows and they had on Harlon Carter, head of the border patrol.
Believe it or not, illegal immigration was a hot topic even back then. Everyone was going on the assumption that it just was not possible to stop it when Carter said essentially this:
Stopping illegal immigration is not hard at all. Just give me the resources and I will put a stop to it.” He clearly was not talking about millions of agents either. He also made it clear that the real problem was too many politicians wanted illegal immigration to continue.
Most of them are the real dirty businessmen who put illegal profits ahead of their country. To my anger and sadness, there are plenty of people here on FR who are just that, dirty businessmen who profit from the illegal invasion.
I can’t tell you how much I despise these people.

I love and respect your father, but advice on handling illegal immigrants is not something I would seek his counsel n.

Reagan claimed it as a mistake.

What’s he gonna do next? Endorse some candidate on behalf of the Gipper?
