President Obama Monday evening blamed Republicans for the failure of the super committee to meet its deadline for a debt plan and warned that he will veto any attempt to eliminate the automatic spending cuts that go into effect with that failure.
In an appearance in the White House briefing room a little more than an hour after the committee officially conceded failure, the president said his answer to those who want to eliminate those cuts “is simple: No. I will veto any effort to get rid of those automatic spending cuts to domestic and defense spending. There will be no easy off-ramps on this one.”
He added, “We need to keep the pressure up to compromise, not the turn off the pressure.”
That should be the line for the 2012 election!
I despise Obama, but don’t trust either side in this.
The republicans agreeing to the formation of this stupid “super-committee” is like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football and believing Lucy won’t pull it away this time.
That’s one area where he never fails to amaze.
My understanding is that *everything* gets cut - entitlements, military, everything. Now Obama will try to say that all the cuts, including the military, are the fault of the Republicans and the media will be his echo chamber on this. But, one way or the other, the budget has to be slashed so we don’t become Greece. That’s what we need to be saying - that Democrats were incapable of making tough choices and that’s why we are where we are.

This is fine. His base hates the non-defense cuts. The cuts don’t go into effect until after the election, so if Obamalini is beaten, the military spending will probably be partly restored. For now, Obamalini is defending a “Satan sandwich.
