If it is an interview for a newspaper, why do they want/need a video tape of it? To get a video they can post on the web if he happens to misspeak or fumble an answer, that’s why.

Try saying this real slow, say, a news paper is not a TV station, you go on TV with Letterman, for example, dang, they have TV cameras there, you go to the newspaper, they have cameras and print. This is the same once conservative Union Leader that endorsed McCain in the GOP primary in 2008.

Would you rather they had endorsed Mittens instead? It is quite possible the McCain Union Leader endorsement prevented the guy from the neighboring state from winning the primary, which really would have boosted his chances for the nomination. None of the other GOP candidates came within 20 points of McCain and Romney in the New Hampshire primary (Huckabee, Giuliani, and Ron Paul were the only other candidates to even get more than 2% of the vote).

If he's truly worried they will edit the video to make him look bad, he could video the interview with his own camera so the Cain campaign had their own record of what actually happened.

But I suspect that isn't his real concern.

Everyone in the whole world knows why the Cain campaign doesn't want these newspaper interviews videoed, and it is not because they manipulate what he says. It is entirely because Cain is basically ignorant on most policy questions and doesn't want the public to see just how little he actually knows.

Don't care how much or how little he knows on policy questions. I care about how much I can trust him to push the conservative agenda and not back down when the Dems shriek. I care about how much confidence I can have that he won't sell us out and be just another RINO.

Lack of knowledge can be fixed. Lack of character can't.

Frankly, I think it speaks to his character that he entered the presidential race without informing himself better.

I guess he counted on his charm and conservatism ... and, well, it almost worked.

The paper is correct on this. Cain should have allowed it to be filmed, although I suspect he himself is beginning to realize that he’s not competent to be running and he doesn’t want to reveal it even more than he has already done.

That said, Romney never lets anything be shown about him unless he’s fully in control of it and has even ducked out of a number of these “debates.” Yet no comments on that from any source...

Tough crap. they’re a newspaper, not a TV show. They can use their own fishwrap to cry in if it bothers them. They must not respect their own medium.

There is a concerted game of “gotcha” going on with Cain, so why give them ammo?

Have you been living in a cave for the past decade? Do you think a newspaper is just a piece of fiber with ink on it that lands on your doorstep each morning? Newspapers have been posting video for years on their websites (you do know that it is still called a newspaper if you read it on the Internet, don't you?). There's no limit to the number of excuses some will come up with to deny that Cain is simply afraid that too many people will see and hear his lack of knowledge on important issues.
