Union Leader Blasts Cain for Refusing to Allow Interview to Be Filmed
The Corner ^ | 11/21/2011 | Katrina Trinko

From New Hampshire’s Union Leader:

Cain’s decision was made after a video showed him fumbling an answer about Libya during a newspaper editorial board interview in Milwaukee — and right before he was to do an interview with this newspaper, which we wanted C-SPAN to record and broadcast. That wasn’t going to happen, a Cain campaign spokesman said, because “videos are typically used for television and it’s a newspaper. We decided we didn’t want to do the video.”

Videos these days are used by everyone, even random people on the street who record candidates with their cell phones. The difference between television and newspaper interviews is not that cameras are present, but that newspaper interviews tend to be longer and more in depth. The Cain campaign knows this. It seems that Cain is fine with everyone seeing him give short, prepared answers, but not with everyone seeing him try to answer questions in which he has more than 30 or 60 seconds to respond. He would do well to rethink that decision, for it gives the impression that he’s got something to hide.

The Cain campaign said last week their policy was now not to permit filming at any newspaper interviews of Herman Cain.

Good move. They won’t be able to manipulate what he says.

They don’t need video.

While he’s on a roll... Why not go down there and tell the Des Moines Register to F’off while he’s at it. That would make it complete...

He’s acknowledging and highlighting that he has a weakness. Not smart when you want this particular narrative to go away...

Good move. They won’t be able to manipulate what he says.

You mean the newspaper won't be able show accurate footage of Cain not knowing what the heck he is talking about and generally fumbling around trying to figure out how to answer easy questions.

Everyone in the whole world knows why the Cain campaign doesn't want these newspaper interviews videoed, and it is not because they manipulate what he says. It is entirely because Cain is basically ignorant on most policy questions and doesn't want the public to see just how little he actually knows.

Mr. Media Indignation obviously missed the Cain / Gingrich forum in Texas. How did their interview with Romney go?

Why are you asking? Looks like you have already posted what you think over and over to yourself, eh?

Given the history of “News media” selectively editing video, this is a smart move. Look at the way CBS played with the video of Sarah Palin in 2008 to make her look stupid.

As Rush Limbaugh pointed out, after being ambushed with selectively edited video released by the Editorial board in Milwaukee it would be dumb for Cain’s camp to have this taped.

They should have made that the campaign policy the day before Milwaukee and not a week after.

No not a smart move for you, Chief priest of the Cult of Newt, to be pimping an attack at Cain on this thread, when later today you will be running whining about "Circular firing squads" on any thread critical of Newt.

The stench of hypocrisy wafting off your postings is getting to potent for anyone around here to ignore.

Commie editorial boards are a trap for the conservative candidates. It was stupid for Herman to even consider doing an interview, let alone on TV. ALL conservatives should say NO to editorial board entrapment.

I saw the Gingrich/Cain Lincoln-Douglas style debate. And I saw Cain have to punt twice when the question asked required a more substantive response. It showed the lack of depth and seriousness if Cain and was the only big takeaway from the entire debate.

Look, I like Herman. The media, particulary these newspapers only want to use them to try and manipulate the content and show somethinh out of context.

I know Herman ain’t perfect. None of them are. I am not actually decided on who I am for.

But I won’t play into this sort of thing.

Bullshit. Cain can do a 30 minute interview where he answers 29.5 minutes perfectly and the 1 answer he fumbles will be played over and over in the MSM!!! Good for him for telling this RINO Romney-loving paper to go to hell.

That Milwaukee interview where he “fumbled” Libya the MSM are so anti-Cain they didn’t even bother to show his full answer to the question! All they show is the 10 seconds where he’s collecting his thoughts.

If you want to be on the same side as the conservative-hating, Romney-loving media please go for it.

This is the same once conservative Union Leader that endorsed McCain in the GOP primary in 2008.

No. You don’t avoid job interviews because they are too long or too hard or might have gotcha questions. You know this shit or you don’t. This avoidance crap is how we ended up with Zero. The media can’t destroy you on stuff you know cold. They destroy you on stuff you DON’T know, but should.

I haven’t seen anyone destroy Newt in an interview on foreign policy and you haven’t either.

You mean the Media will not be allowed to selectively edit footage of Cain like they did last time

Odd Rush Limbaugh says you Newt-bots spin about Cain is moronic.

I would have to say I agree.

RUSH: Now, he said that twice. He said, “Well, I’m for collective bargaining as long as it’s not collective hijacking, and as long as it doesn’t create an undue burden on the state.” Again, the attempt here is to make it sound as though he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. But on Libya, when you listen to the whole interview, the whole question and answer, he ended up getting Libya right. His biggest mistake was admitting he was having a hard time focusing. He shouldn’t have said that in front of the enemy, the enemy being the editorial board, but he said I’m having a hard time focusing here.

Federal workers do have collective bargaining. Some of them do. Some federal workers do have collective bargaining. It’s not the same as in some of the states. For example, the air traffic controllers do have collective bargaining over their wages, and some federal workers only have collective bargaining rights over work conditions. Some of them have collective bargaining rights over other aspects, but not wages. It’s all over the ballpark. It is a mistake to say that federal workers, as the editorial board member here said, don’t have collective bargaining rights; some of them do.

In any event, substantively Cain was right. Substantively Cain got it right on collective bargaining for federal unionized workers, and the editors got it wrong. And even the Journal Sentinel article that accompanies the video eventually admitted that Cain got it right in his answer and their editors had it wrong. But no matter, they are attempting to portray via the video here a slow, ignorant, uninformed, unsure of himself candidate who really is just out classed and is just totally out of his league. And the video, under that impression, under those auspices, has gone viral, and that’s the thought accompanying it with everybody who sends it out.
