Herman Cain leads the Republican presidential field in Iowa, according to a new poll released Thursday.
The Iowa State University/Gazette/KCRG poll found that the former Godfather's Pizza CEO leads the GOP field in Iowa with the support of 24.5 percent of Republican voters. Cain is followed by Ron Paul with 20.4 percent of the vote, then Mitt Romney with 16.3 percent.
The poll's findings are somewhat in contrast with a number of recent national polls that found Cain's recent front-runner or near-front-runner status disappearing in light of allegations that he sexually harassed a number of women while he was president of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

Stick a fork in Newt he is done. Even if he manages to win the GOP nomination there is no way he wins now.
All the 0 campaign will have to do if Newt is our nominee is run this clip in the swing states the last week in Oct 2012.
My personal gut feeling is that Cain has weathered the first major storm to come his way. He has started righting his ship, and his team now has very useful (if not painful) experience on how to react to issues they need to play defense on.
With that in mind, I think the bleeding has essentially stopped, but he has also had his ceiling of support lower dramatically.
If he wins Iowa, I think he is one of the two players left in the game. But he needs to carry that to a convincing South Carolina win.
Just my thoughts for today.
Faux News, in the tank for Romney, hardly ever mentions state polls. But they will parade out all sorts of “national polls” showing how bad everyone is doing except Romney. Faux News also could care less if the vast majority of these “national polls” are democrat-controlled polls.
Coulter, Rove and Ingrahm are deeply saddened.
Pray for America
Exactly, Dilly booy. Most of us for Cain are mature, thinking people who can best judgte the character of a man, and know when lies are thrown at him. IT SIMPLY NEVER HAPPENED! Now do you get that, Perrybot? Go back to momma and grow up.
I typed it down from Fox, about 3 minutes after it was reported and put up on their screen. It wouldn’t have taken me 3 minutes, but I was laughing so hard it was tough to type. LOL
However, it’s like any of these polls, I only believe the ones I like. LOL
That’s a national poll. And, according to Rove, the national polls don’t matter in the state primary elections.
Also love this gif of Cain...the best.
That was a pool of under 400 registered Republicans. Quite a bit different from this poll which sampled around 1200 and was of LIKELY caucus goers. Newt may be ahead in some polls but this isn’t legitimate enough to use as an example. Of course “national” doesn’t really matter. It’s individual states that count.
Cindie
They do when their guy, Romney, is leading state polls.
By golly you’re right again-— it’s killing him.
Rasmussen Poll from Iowa Nov 15
2012 GOP Nominee Preference
32% Newt
19% Romney
13% Cain
700 likely IA GOP caucus-goers
Yeah I heard the same thing from you in 2008 about McCain. How did that work for us?
In regards to Gingrich though, there is a big difference.
Newt is well known by most everyone in the base of this party. Newts surge has not really been a surge at all. It has been a steady climb since the debates started. when most wrote Newt off at first, due exactly to what one would call his baggage, they slowly started noticing that he remained smart, logical, steady and displayed the greatest skill among all the other candidates. Which is precicely what we need and are looking for most, this time around.
Add to that appeal, his extremely sharp mind and intelligence, that now seems to be channeled in all the directions that we always expected from him but did not get, the new picture most of us see is now appealing.
I see Newts progress as a result of people like us who have reconsidered who and what Newt has become. And I do not think that the MSM attacks and smears will have much impact. Of course, I am a realist, so time will tell.
HERMAN CAIN . THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
“I see Newts progress as a result of people like us who have reconsidered who and what Newt has become. And I do not think that the MSM attacks and smears will have much impact. Of course, I am a realist, so time will tell.”
Exactly.
Rasmussan has Newt in the lead with more than 10 pts over Mitt.
I don’t question whether Cain is ahead there, but the poll states that 70% of the people polled will definitely not vote or probably will not vote.
Let me restate that. Only 30% said they were definitely going to vote or probably going to vote. I worded my prior statement incorrectly.
