Herman Cain thumbs nose at New Hampshire Union Leader
Politico ^ | November 17, 2011 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

POLITICO's Reid Epstein, on the ground in Manchester, N.H., reports:

Herman Cain's campaign stuck a finger in the eye of the most powerful conservative voice in New Hampshire on Thursday, blowing off a scheduled interview with the Union Leader newspaper. Continue Reading

Before Cain's no-show, the campaign had requested the 10 a.m. meeting, scheduled for 60 minutes, be shortened to 20 minutes. Cain also told the Union Leader it would not allow C-SPAN cameras to record the sit-down, as it had the paper's meetings with Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum.

The Associated Press reported Cain's meeting with the paper was canceled before Union Leader editorial page editor Drew Cline was aware that the former pizza executive was not coming.

Messing with the Union Leader could have serious consequences for Cain in New Hampshire. The paper's endorsement is the state's biggest prize for Republicans and is seen as a conservative stamp of approval elsewhere in the country.

No it isn’t. That is Romney land. A waste of time for Cain.

The little back water state of NH can pound sand. Who cares.

With Willard running away with NH I doubt this will have an adverse effect on the Cain campaign in the “Live Free or Die” state.

Having said that, in the big picture it doesn’t look good. People will think, what is Cain afraid of? Exactly. What is Cain afraid of?

..Everyone....EVERYONE ....is piling on him now....

It was a scheduled interview that all candidates are invited to do. Herman Cain walked away from it. It makes NO sense politically. It's unnecessarily shooting himself in the foot. He could have used this hour to his advantage.

My thoughts exactly. The politico created the title of how THEY view things. And the politico wants them all smeared. So I’ll reserve judgement on Cain.

Hmm wonder if all the Newtbots will now show up on this thread whining about “eating our own”?

Aren't you the dude who puts the corny circular firing squad stuff in a vain attempt to defend Newt?

You know, there are far cooler pics than that.

This newspaper is already in the bag for Romney and the unions in Massachusetts will bring thousands by the bus load in New Hampshire for “same day” registration votes in their “open primary” to guarantee a Romney victory.

I don’t blame Cain for telling the whole lot of them to go piss up a rope. He’s wasting precious time, effort, and money if he were to play their game.

Opening his mouth and inserting his foot into it, I'd guess.

Those tweets are probably why or at least contributed to why Cain decided not to be there.

What is Politico's beef anyway? They keep blowing everything way out of proportion. I guess they don't like seeing a slave off the plantation acting all ‘upity’.

At any rate this is not journalism the way they are sensationalizing everything. It is just pulp fiction.

Cain may have decided not to dedicate any time to New Hampshire. If the people of the state have largely decided for Romney, why waste time and resources chasing them and begging them to make up change their mind? Respect their decision and focus on areas where there will be a return for the investment.

Couldn't agree more...Cain shouldn't waste a dime in this worthless state. They are so far in the tank for Romney here that the town where Romney has his seasonal residence is already making changes to accommodate the security concerns in an area that will be hosting the 'summer White House'. Done deal; as far as NH is concerned.

Cain should be spending his time in SC and FL...

It probably had something to do with the video interview he had with the Milwaukee newspaper the other day in which he flubbed the Libya question. I think it’s a smart move on his part. The New Hampshire paper wasn’t going to endorse him anyway. Unless I miss my guess, they’re probably in the tank for Romney, the almost favorite son. If he misspeaks in any way, this will be all over the evening news and the internet.

“I don't think he's going anywhere from here at this point, anyway,” he said.

That's a QUOTE from the publisher of the Union Leader. 'Conservative paper', my ass.

Wow, I’ve never seen anyone hi jack their own thread.

Especially in such a pathetic attempt to prop up their own candidate.

I agree, but then be a man and make that decision before accepting a simple interview from a paper. This just amplifies Cains flub in the last paper interview to just bail on it for no reason.

It is a smart move if you're not ready for prime time. Cain knows he is way over his head and it is becoming really embarrassing for him.

My guess is the he canceled because he was taking a lesson to become more fluent in Cuban.

ANYONE that thinks this paper is going to endorse anyone other than Willard Milt Romnuts needs to seek professional help.
