Newt will never, ever be GOP nominee
Washington Post ^ | 11/15/2011 | Jonathan Bernstein

Yes, Newt Gingrich has spiked in the polls. No, he’s not going to be the nominee. I’ve been trying to duck this one because it feels like laying out the obvious, but, briefly, three reasons:

1. The baggage he’s always had — the marital difficulties, the ethics troubles, a whole bunch of deviations from conservative orthodoxy over the years (such as that ad he shot with Nancy Pelosi: “Our country must take action to address climate change”) — just isn’t going to go away. Republican voters don’t have those things in mind at the moment, but no candidate is more vulnerable to attack ads than the former Speaker.

2. Message discipline, lack thereof. It’s impossible to imagine Newt not saying something that hurts him if there’s a microphone in front of his face for a three-week stretch, which is what wouldgoing to happen if the press decides he actually has a chance at winning this thing. We have a couple decades of evidence, including earlier this year, showing that he’s just not able to do it. For whatever it’s worth, I’d add that as I read the polling over the years, Newt’s basic act is unlikely to wear well with voters after extended exposure. People just don’t like the guy.

3. Both of those might be overcome, but this one won’t: it’s highly unlikely that anyone who worked with Newt Gingrich when he was Speaker would want him anywhere near the White House. As detailed in many places, but perhaps most memorably by David Maraniss and Michael Weisskopf in their

Question, please: How does Obamacare cease to be a big issue during the electiion campaign if Romney is the candidate?

1. It may very well be ruled unconstitutional by the USSC as of June 2012, and am sure will still be around in Dem talking points as a proposition;

2. Has not Romney said a number of times, without any wriggle room, that “he” will end Obamacare as one of/the first actions of his presidency?

Baggage and his current wife. I swear she is embalmed alive.

Why? Because she is clean and has a nice complexion for a 45 year old woman...

Furthermore, she graduated as valedictorian from Whitehall Memorial High School in Whitehall, Wisconsin, in 1984, and cum laude from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1988.

.

Apparently these creatures are more suitable for some FReepers...

That becomes a big issue, of course, when all you have is a hammer—every problem is seen as a nail.

Yup. It'd be interesting what skeletons are in the "Newt baggage" handlers' closets around here.

There appears to be a lot of FReepers who equate themselves with Jesus Christ.

What crusade? Your post was just a bunch of LIES. Maybe you should do some research and educate yourself. I am embarrassed for your public ignorance.

Newt Gingrich was 18 when he married 26 year-old Jackie Battley, his HS geometry teacher.

According to his second wife, this relationship started when Newt was 16. He's a victim!

As I posted on another thread.

Cain was weighed, measured and found lacking. You may indeed give the MSM exactly what they forgot to bring down Newt, but it will not save Cain.

I wanted Sarah to run, and was disappointed. I posted comments like Palin/Bachman, because a mess this big will take 2 women to clean. When Sarah bowed out, I had hopes for Perry ... which lasted until about 30 seconds into the first debate. Pawlenty and Santorum had some good points, but both were willing to destroy other R’s, so I (and most others) wrote them off. Quite frankly, I wrote Newt off in May and I liked Cain as the last man standing ... but I feared the country would not accept another rookie as President, I feared his lack of foreign policy experience, and I really started to question the strategy of the 3rd 9 (national sales tax) without eliminating the federal income tax.

Cain has proven he is indeed a rookie, and it is not that I believe the accusations, it is that upon looking at his postions, he is like a loaf of bread that has not even been given time to rise, let alone go in the oven. He needs experience, and that experience needs to be in some elected office other than President. His day in the sun is over, regardless of the outcome of the accusations.

If not Newt, who? Ron Paul? Please ... good economics, but not just lousey foreign policy ... the guy is friggin nuts. Hunstman ... the guy for those who think Romney is too conservative? Or is one of those who cant even get a mic at the debates going to make it to the top? The fact of the matter is, whether you like it or not, it is now Newt or Mitt. Period.

Now ... do you want Romney? Because that is what you will get if you push to destroy Newt. As someone else said, the MSM does indeed monitor us to get thier stories. Go back and look, and you will see the knives the press uses ALWAYS show up here first. We even know some members of the press who post or lurk. Stop being a baby and throwing a tantrum.

And in the mouth department Bachmann is better? I’m originally from Minnesota, and know people who work with her. She’s a good congressman. She should remain a good congressman for a while ... then maybe a senator. Besides which, Newt has come a long way in disciplining his mouth.

Unless there is a logjam at the end and, as a result, a brokered convention, a Cain/Gingrich or Gingrich/Cain ticket is about the best we are going to get now. Of supreme importance is to oust Obama and not replace him with diet Obama, i.e., Romney.

No, I’m sorry, the dream team will elude us this cycle. We will have to take less than perfect ... and at the same time start working on and with Jindal, Rubio, Ryan, and other such rising conservative stars for the next round. One election cycle is not going to fix the mess we are in.

Actually, I think a President-elect Gingrich would give Speaker Boehner a set a conservative balls as a Christmas 2012 gift. I would love to see Sarah preside over the Senate as well (LMAO)
