Gen Y and Gen X get it right on the environment; old folks don’t

Generation Y is more likely than older generations to support clean energy and environmental protection and to believe climate change is happening and is caused by human activity, according to new Pew polling and analysis. Generation X is close behind. Boomers aren't so bad either. It's the old folks, the so-called Silent Generation aged 66-83, that are the big problem.

There's long been talk about how gay rights will continue to advance as homophobic old codgers die off. Looks like the push for a cleaner, greener society will get a boost from that same cohort replacement effect.

And WHO did this? The voters??

As a late Boomer, I dispute that.

Even the “greatest” gen was indoctrinated.

Even fifteen years ago, you could have found flame wars about homeschooling here on FR, and lots of Freepers claiming that “oh, MY public school is different” piles of bull.

Too many have been indoctrainted for too long, without a care to the foundations of the true freedom found in an eductation that was free from government “pull”.

Couple of high school kids going through our neighborhood doing a survey on recycling for a school project. After introductions I informed them my generation used cloth diapers not disposable ones, used Tupperware for storage, not plastic bags or plastic wrap and passed our solid wood furniture down from generation to generation. They politely said thank you and left.

Expect to hear more and more of this stuff, along with “old folks cost a lot in health care, and old folks are hoarding all the money in their retirement accounts, etc.”

They are already saying these things. And obamacare will take care of the rest.

That’s funny...

Even more, the oldsters were able to look up and say if it was going to rain, newer generations are lost without a news feed telling them if it’s sunny outside.

...and to believe climate change is happening and is caused by human activity...

Well, they can "believe" whatever they want. If their beliefs were based on verifiable facts (not doctored, cherry-picked data and outright lies) then they would "know" rather than simply "believe."

The X and Y were indoctrinated, the oldsters were educated.

Yep. I'm a member of the Silent Generation and I was taught real science, not "consensus science." There has never been a bigger political hoax in the history of mankind than that of human-caused climate change.

Sorry to stray off the subject of this thread, but public schools aren't rotten because they're inherently evil, they're rotten because they are products of a rotten society.

Um, maybe the “silent generation” has lived long enough to notice that the climate has ALWAYS changed. It’s called weather. Plus the “oldsters” have also lived long enough to see fads and hoaxes come and go.

Marxists tell them that people over 30 don’t know anything.

The gen x and gen y ers have been totally brainwashed....Carter didn’t get DOE in time to totally dumb down the people over 65 years of age. They weren’t able to get them in their formative years and brainwash them.

They can still use logic and reason and understand (real) science.

You have a group of people who say ‘up is down’ ‘there is no morality in sex acts—just like the pagans believed’ and they actually believe it, because of the cognitive dissonance in the public schools which destroys logic.

I wish I saved my email but about a year ago, a family member sent me a funny one about older Americans being the first “conservationists”. For example, they walked to school, they dried their clothes on a line, used cloth diapers on their kids, and fixed or recycled everything. Old clothes were made into throw rugs if they couldn’t be mended. Leaves were raked by hand (nothing gas powered) and many lawns mown by push mowers. The list went on and on.... so, older Americans were WAY more friendly to the environment than these youngsters.

Look on the bright side.

At least now when they get lost in an orchard, they can call 911 from their I-Phones.

Cloth diapers are the ultimate in recycling. They make great dish towels and great cleaning rags. Of course, we didn’t have paper towels.

Not everyone used Tupperware. You had to go those parties. I remember sets of glass refrigerator dishes with lids. They are still available in antique stores and come in clear and green.

The majority of our family furniture is now genuinely antique.

But, re-cycling is not about saving resources. It is about spending time washing out trash, spending time sorting and justifying grants for the township. Control/power.

I call B.S. When I was a kid in the 60’s, factories could spew all manner of toxic crap into the water and air. The Naugatuck river used to flow orange and yellow regularly. You would often see yellow and green smoke spewing from the various rubber, chemical and metal based factories. Car and truck emissions were nearly unregulated. Garbage on the side of the road was a common sight. And all this was in a little ‘burg in Connecticut.

The boomer generation did the real heavy lifting of cleaning up America. Gen X and Y are the “Me Too” generations trying to lay claim to the success in the face of rapidly diminishing returns on effort and investment. Universally, they are championing causes with dubious or negligible results, but with immense price tags attached.

Pollution controls are asymptotic, kiddees. Drop the Chicken Little act and enjoy the world you have inherited.
