NEW YORK (AP) — On "Saturday Night Live," even the devil was offended by the Penn State child sex abuse scandal.
"SNL" cast member Jason Sudeikis reprised his role as Satan, appearing with red horns and pitchfork. The devil was informed by "Weekend Update" host Seth Meyers of sex charges against a former defensive coordinator and allegations that university officials failed to report the abuse.
Even he was disturbed by the news. Addressing Penn State students who protested football coach Joe Paterno's firing, the devil spoke directly into the camera, asking, "Do you know how bad that made you look?"
Disgusted by the scandal, the devil says, "Evil isn't what it used to be."

To offer a valid analogy, McQueary would be the guy who came and told you that one of *your*employees* had anally raped a child in *your* locker room the night before.

No, you called your boss and told him that a credible employee had seen another employee raping a child. You ask him what he intends to do about it. If you are not satisfied with his answer, you state your intent to notify the police.

I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean, but if a man of Joe Paterno’s stature showed up at the police station and said that he had a credible report of the rape of a child, they bleedin’ well *would* do something.
They would find out what child was with the pervo. They would locate him, talk to him, and take him to a hospital to be examined for signs of rape. Those signs would have been found. The pervo would have been arrested. None of the boys he molested between that date and this would have been molested.

The one I heard on secular radio late last week was a one-liner:
"Now Paterno can run for pope!"

I am talking about the riot on Wednesday night and also the riot/rally on Tuesday night.
They were mad that Paterno was dumped, but also mad at Sandusky, Spanier, the Board, and the media.
Besides lack of creativity, what else explains chants like:
“F*** Sandusky”
“F*** Spanier”
“F*** the Trustees”
and “F**** the media” followed by a tv van being flipped.
There were also signs expressing the same sentiments and critical of Schultz and Curley.
The fans who know anything about football do. For the past few years, we may have had the most incompetent coaching staff in the country.

Sandusky is not an employee of Paterno. Paterno was not told he was anally raping anyone. fondling was the term reported to Joe. Sandusky was not even working for Penn State in 2002, when Joe was informed of the events. Sandusky had retired in 1999 after 30 years at Penn State.

Joe did call his boss and inform him of what a colleague had seen Sandusky doing. again, Sandusky was not an employee of the school.
state law mandates that upon notification of such events, police are to be notified. this is the question, did Curley notify the police or not.

again, you fail to understand the fundamental difference between a witness, victim, and hearsay. if you stole a car, in this case it’d be some unknown neighbor’s car, and mcqueary witnessed it and told me about it. i then call the parking lot super to report it. then what? it’s not my car, i don’t even know who it belongs to.

Well, since this statement can apply to former Penn State coaches ranging from Sandusky to Paterno, are you referencing Sandusky here? Are you defending him here?
And if you say "no," why not? Your statement applies just as much to Sandusky as it does Paterno, right?
If you're (also) referencing Paterno, I think columnist Scott Ostler's column in the way he wrapped up it up here -- Penn State's Joe Paterno gets what he deserves -- applies:

The due process I've heard of involves a justice system and a legal trial. Paterno faces no legal action or charge. Legally, his rear end is covered.
But there was no trial when Paterno was sainted, no jury declared him one of the noblest and finest college coaches of all time. The public decided.
It's the same deal on the flip side. We'll take the facts and form them into our personal legacy of Joe Paterno.
The focus here is how the Penn State sports culture (fans) view Paterno -- even to this day. That's a cultural issue. Legacies are subjective "tabulated" by correspondence to reality or propaganda that is "taken in" by the viewer.
Sub-cultures can still erect defenses vs. reality...denial, etc.
Look, I agree with a "wait out" stance when it comes to the NCAA holding Penn State accountable. ESPN interviewed its president late last week and he said the NCAA will wait until the criminal investigations are done before they come in and spank Penn State (obviously he didn't use the word "spank") with NCAA by-law violations.
[Note: He didn't mention by-law 2.4...but that would be one example that Penn State could be "written up" by the NCAA...for failure to practice ethics such as "honesty" and "responsibility" off the field.]
The reason why this otherwise "can't wait" is because this isn't simply a "Penn State" problem...it's a major cultural problem (one that goes beyond Penn State).
Certainly it includes the culture at Penn State. When this story first broke, the Attorney General's office pointed to the Penn State "culture" as problematic. (An obvious understatement)

That columnist says: The culture of indifference that resonates still to this very day at Penn State. That was Paterno early Wednesday afternoon, releasing a statement and proclaiming he would retire at the end of the season—and that the Board of Trustees “should not spend a single minute discussing my status.” In other words, I’ll tell you when I’m leaving; you can’t fire me. Just like in the spring of 2004, when Curley and Spanier arrived at Paterno’s house and asked him to retire. Get the hell out of here, Joe said. Just like the loyal students camped outside Paterno’s house Tuesday night, chanting “Joe must stay”; cheering a man who could have stopped so many more senseless attacks by a sexual predator had he just dialed 9-1-1.
Sorry...but the culture doesn't wait for investigations to be completed, indictments to come down, etc. It moves daily.
Agreed. You raise an interesting angle that needs more discussion: What would I do if this happened @ my alma mater? I would surmise -- because this is an underlying cultural issue -- that would you get people divided on both sides...like what has happened at Penn State.

So...does this mean that if the Michigan schools had done this, the alumni would be so up in arms that you might have massive protests?...Yet @ Penn State, the students were seemingly more concerned with their local cultural god, Joe Paterno, than they were the victims when they rioted?

So someone’s been convicted in court? Who was convicted here? I admit I haven’t been watching this one carefully, so maybe someone has been convicted of wrongdoing.
I catch you anally raping a ten year old boy, I won’t need a court conviction, you’ll be dead so you can’t ever do that evil again. Your efforts to deflect from the heinous nature of these deeds tells us a lot about you and your ‘transactional taboo’ structure: there is nothing you would personally try to stop until a court conviction is in hand, is that correct? That’s the position you’ve taken on this thread.
