The Obama administration will announce Thursday that it is reevaluating the route of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, a move that will likely delay a final decision on the project, sources briefed by the administration said.

TransCanada Corp.’s Keystone XL pipeline would carry oil sands crude from Alberta to refineries in Texas. The pipeline has set off a firestorm in Washington, with critics raising environmental concerns and proponents arguing the project will boost the economy.

Reuters reported on the decision to reevaluate the pipeline route earlier Thursday.

The State Department and the Whte House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No surprise. Obama won't do what's good for jobs and the country, he'll only do what's best for him. By making a decision before the election he'll either tick off unions or enviros.

Build refiners in the north

You think that oil and bitumen needs a pipeline but gasoline and jet fuel doesn't?

Do not be stupid, the usage is all over the country, they have air ports in Denver, and maybe one other location in the north no matter what you think, do you think that no one has transportation in the north. Yes I am sure one of those northern states may have a city and a piper cub airport. They have been hauling fuel to the military by the 21 team for some time now. I guess????

More Canadian oil will go to China at the higher transportation costs then. There’s also the indefinite situation with Iran having nukes. Have fun with the higher fuel prices for years and years, thank the socialist NIMBYs of both political parties (mostly pensioners and local government employees) for keeping fuel prices up. Their “property values” take precedence over your property rights, and now, oil availability for our country. They own all that they see.

Yeah, North Dakota has a large demand for gasoline.

We still have to build pipelines to the places that need the product.

And refineries produce more than transportation fuel. That chemical industry is already built in the gulf coast area.

Yes and new refinery's and new processing plants make new long term jobs, digging a hole and filling it does not.

Yes, there’s little doubt that China is sitting back waiting for Obama to side with our enviro-nuts and nix this, the pipeline will then be built to the Canadian coast.

And how about the refinery that is no longer needed since it’s customers are served by some other refinery?

We have existing refineries connected to the existing refined products and chemical plants running on lots of imported oil from overseas.

We need to replace that oil source with a more dependable source from Canada.

We do not need to spend billions building the facilities we already have. We need to bring the Canadian oil to them.

Pure theater. He's not reevaluating the Keystone XL pipeline, only the route it'll take.
There's too much money wrapped up in this already and it's been in the works for years! The processing units were built before the pipeline.

Do you understand we have already become a net exporter of refined products?

We don't have a shortage of refineries. We have a shortage of the feed stock to them.

Why would ConocoPhillips or any other company want to shutdown their working refinery to spend money and build a new one for 8 to 10 billion dollars?

The refineries are rarely down for storms. It is the Gulf of Mexico Oil and Gas Production that routinely gets shut down for the storms. We need more stable input to the refineries, like this pipeline.
