President Barack Obama is now polling even with a generic Republican candidate in a new Gallup poll — a measure by which he was down by eight percent in recent months — a sign that he is turning his presidency around after a miserable few months.
Incumbents running for reelection underperform in this sort of poll, which allows voters to imagine their ideal candidate running against Obama. When placed in a head-to-head match-up with the GOP field, Obama performs even better.
Obama has also gained tremendously among swing voters — who favored the generic Republican by over 20 points in September, but now are split between Obama and the dummy candidate.
In a separate poll from Quinnipiac University, Obama ties GOP front-runner Mitt Romney in the key swing states of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania, and leads the rest of the Republican field.
His strategy of putting the screws to Congress for failing to pass his jobs bill and the lack of enthusiasm for his Republican opposition are certainly contributing to the bump. While by no means assuring him victory in 2012, the polls indicate that Obama has succeeded turning around months of bad poll numbers.

The best data comes from polls of likely voters (LVs) - but typically one cannot determine who is truly likely to vote until somewhere around 60 days before an election.
I certainly would avoid hyperventilating about Gallup or anyone else's poll right now. They really are meaningless in predicting the outcome of an election one year away, especially when the potential opposition lacks a viable candidate, and the incumbent is intensely disliked by a large segment of the voting population.
I'm thinking we might get obama again, but I don't know about the Republican congress. In my area, a lot of democrats were elected yesterday.

How about we quit with all the stupid happy talk about how Obama can’t win or is going to drop out. He is polling remarkably well considering what an awful job he is doing and the terrible state of the economy. The public WANTS to like him, and his class warfare shtick looks like it is helping him among the ignorant masses.
This is going to be a very close election and whoever we nominate better be capable of running an excellent campaign.

Well, if they didn't use that standard, Obama wouldn't look as good. Do we really need to ask why?

My fear is that if the masses don’t get it now, what’s another $4T? They only see that which directly relates to themselves. Elderly will be receiving a small increase in social security next year, and Obama will play it up to somehow get the credit???? If unemployment drops to 8.5%, the dumb asses will think it’s Obama’s plans that are working.
And never under estimate his rhetoric. He’s great at the blame game for those who take him at face value and don’t think on their own.
Bottom line....I’m worried about the poll.
Once he starts his media blitz on the major networks flooding the airwaves with his message about how...."I'm going to give to you out of the kindness of my heart ..... and the Evil Republicans want to take my gifts away from you so their rich friends can prosper while you suffer" .... it will be very difficult to counter. The GOP are going to be portrayed as the evil people that want to take the candy from the poor suffering babies. And my guess is that the GOP will counter the emotional plea from the left and exhaust most of the campaign funds responding with the tired old phrase of "Giving candy to the baby Kills Jobs!"
Sadly and unfortunately the electorate is becoming increasingly complacent and are beginning to enjoy having their meals and expenses paid for by others and will be happy to receive it as long as possible. With that mindset they will gladly vote for whomever will keep the Dole coming in.
Hussein has made up 20 points in ONE MONTH? Color me skeptical.

Obama will be VERY hard to beat and if Romney is the nominee Obama wins, easy.
Not me. zero will cement and further his policies via executive order. We will also have no prospect of destroying the monster of 0bamacare because of zero’s veto.
romney sucks, but not as much as zero. The only way a zero presidency could possibly be neutered is by a 2/3 conservative over-ride in the House AND Senate (that will never happen). Remember, impeachment would only yield Prez Biden (or other to be named zero VP).
Unfortunately he is not running against Ronald Reagan and we could count on that type of result. I fully do not expect any republican to win like that. There are just too many illegals who will vote, cheating, etc., that will go on to keep this piece of garbage in office. I fully expect ANY republican victory to be like 51-49 or 50.5 to 49.5. It is going to be like Bush v. Gore. Obama could lose the election like Gore and lose the total vote. I fully expect a razor close election.

I remember the 1984 election very well and don’t remember any claim.
There was a point after the first debate were RR didn’t do very well were Mondale got a boost but the 1984 election was over before it started.
By summer of 1984, there was no doubt who was going to win that election

Of course he is. That is because the Republican candidates are making asses out of themselves with these ridiculous, childish debates. They are laughable and they stand there like excited beauty pageant contestants waiting for their fishbowl question. Same questions, same answers, different ties.
Based on the republican candidates, who appear to have all exited the same clown car, this is expected.
