Summary: Its official, Adobe is putting its future mobile video efforts behind HTML5. So, do you really think that desktop Flash will survive for long?
Adobes love affair with its Flash format has come to an end. Oh sure, Adobe said they were just killing development on mobile browser Flash in favor of HTML5, but seriously, do you think, that theyll keep working on Flash on the desktop for much longer? If you do, I have a nice, lightly-used bridge in Brooklyn Id like to sell you. No, the end of Flash is in sight and HTML5 is now the one true future for Internet video.

Not Jobs, just reality. Flash has been a no good POS for a long time, the main reason it stuck around so long was lack of competition. Then came HTML5 and Silverlight, one of them was bound to beat Flash. When you have a platform that only gets used because of the lack of competition the second competition shows up your clock is ticking. I won’t miss Flash crashes.

Flash was always buggy, came with security vulnerabilities and wasn’t seamless with HTML. The new standard will make playing videos effortless on the Internet.

While a lot of the attention is understandably on Flash versus HTML5, and HTML5 video, HTML5 is going to end up killing a lot of technologies. One small example is web sockets (currently not well supported, due to security problems), which will ultimately render Ajax unnecessary.

Cool.
What will be using next week?

Time killed flash, and it killed DOS too.
Things become obsolete.
Jobs prematurely jumped on HTML5 and left the people who purchace Apple mobile products without cutesy little games or much of the internet video content for four, maybe five device design cycles.

Can anyone explain how HTML5 can escape intellectual property claims? There are many patents about digital animation and video. Android is under a barrage of lawsuits. How can HTML5 escape IP claims?

Switch to Google Chrome. I did 3 weeks ago and it also gets rid of the memory hog aspects of Firefox also.

So, does this mean that things that couldn’t be seen or run on iPhones, iPads, etc. be seen and run now?
