Newt Gingrich: The Indispensable Republican
Esquire ^ | Aug 10, 2011 | John H. Richardson

Posted on 11/05/2011 10:07:20 AM PDT by bullypulpit

Back in the 1990s, [Marianne Gingrich] told a reporter she could end her husband's career with a single interview. She held her tongue all through the affair and the divorce and even through the annulment Gingrich requested from the Catholic Church two years later, trying to erase their shared past. Now she sits quietly for a moment, ignoring her eggs, trying to decide how far she wants to go.

I really like Newt Gingrich. Before I decided on who I would support in 2012, I posted some favorable posts about Newt. I was summarily attacked by the Palin loon squad, who I fear have now migrated to the Cain loon squad. Anyway, being inquisitive, I joined Newt's Web site, read a couple of his books, and tried to find out what really didn't site right. Then I stumbled on this article. With the mass resignation of his campaign staff in the summer, I thought that many of the things his ex-wife Marianne Gingrich says in this long article make a lot of sense. I am no longer a Newt for President fan, but I am still a Newt fan. This article put everything into perspective for me.

I don't think I'd judge a man on the basis of ruminations by an ex-wife. BTW her daughter said she asked Newt for the divorce. I wonder what the true story is. In any case it matters little as to his ability to defeat the usurper in a historic campaign. I look forward to hearing him at length along with Herman Cain this evening.

Looking for some product of the current political class like Newt to fix the broken political system is a fools errand. Newt is just another product of a political class that cannot see that the problem is the system itself is broken.

Sorry, Joe! Newt is no friend of conservatism. Newt was great in the 90’s and for 20 years before that he was the GOP’s ultimate backbench bomb thrower in the House. More recently, Newt has been savaged on this forum and rightly so.

Lets face it. This is a weak field of candidates. Its Romney versus anti-Romney and that doesn't bode well for the good guys.

I don’t know or care about his personal life. I care about the fact that he’s a lying scumbag who will sell conservatives out at the drop of a hat.

This is a weak field of candidates

Let face it you have no clue what you are talking about but are far too arrogant to bother learning the facts about any of the candidates. We have candidates in this race purposing more fundamental change to the Federal Government then even Regan did. But because they are not good little GOP Establishment water boys you cannot be bothered to notice them.

"He believes that what he says in public and how he lives don't have to be connected," she says. "If you believe that, then yeah, you can run for president"

Confirms what I've known for quite a while. "Do as I say, not as I do"..... Enormous intellect bridled by a stupidity of common sense and propriety that astounds me. To believe that personal choices do not influence professional choices is the height of ignorance.

Newton Leroy Gingrich

That does it! I had friends who were married 35 years. His name was Leroy. He asked his wife for a divorce so he could marry a younger women. I guess all Leroys cheat. < /sarcasm off>

That’s the big difference with the wide swing Reagan took in his life. It wasn’t just politics with him, it was his whole life.

"BTW her daughter said she asked Newt for the divorce."

That was Newt's first wife.

Below link is an article from his daughter.

As far as Newt as a history writer, he is amazingly brilliant.

He is blunt. I like that in a politician. We need more of them.

My main problem with Newt is that I find myself liking something he says and then he turns around and does or says something completely liberal/stupid.

I stay clear of Republicans of these “republicans”. I want to know where he is coming from so I can see that he is a solid, consistent conservative.

Newt takes more positions that support my values than any of the others do (so far).

But, I'm still having trouble with the Nancy Pelosi sofa ad about global warming.

I guess we’re supposed to forget about all the liberal positions Newt has taken, and vote for him because he’s the most intelligent politician alive.

Question: If he is so amazingly brilliant, what would explain his becoming a liberal when he left the House GOP leadership? Global Warming, Immigration, the age of Reagan is over, and the list goes on.

Furthermore, Newt is getting propped up by the media at this very moment. The sizable number of positive stories about Newt in the liberal press is a tell tale sign that he is bad news for conservatives.

Marianne paints a pretty dark psychological profile of Newt. She basically is claiming all his rhetoric is just tools he uses to obtain his true life long goal of political fame and fortune.

Interesting perspective.

This story is one of the reasons that I wouldn't have supported Newt. I believed that he was cheating and left her when she was fighting cancer.

It was all lies-the affair, cancer and him leaving her. Rush referred to it earlier this week, thank you for posting it!

------------------------------------------------------------

It was the spring of 1980.

It is this visit that has turned into the infamous hospital visit about which many untruths have been told. I won't repeat them. You can look them up online if you are interested in untruths. But here's what happened:

My mother and father were already in the process of getting a divorce, which she requested.

Dad took my sister and me to the hospital to see our mother. She had undergone surgery the day before to remove a tumor. The tumor was benign. As with many divorces, it was hard and painful for all involved, but life continued. As have many families, we have healed; we have moved on.
