PITTSBURGH (KDKA) Chris Barnes, 11, is getting his latest round of vaccinations for measles and tetanus.
It doesnt really scare me as much as other people, its just a shot, he said.
Without regular immunizations, Chris would be turned away at his pediatricians office.
Dr. Wayne Yankus refuses to see patients unless they follow the government recommended immunization schedule.

Awwww, baby.... let me give it to you next time. ;^)
The shot or the flu? ;-*
Despite being completely wrong you are changing the subject, I thought we were talking about vaccines and children. My question was, if doctors and "bigpharma" were only interested in profiting at the expense of our children, why don't they forgo the vaccines and simply supply new, nasty meds (that you already admit they make, thank you) to treat all the diseases that would make a comeback?
You position makes no monetary sense at all.
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?
And where are all these "sick kids"? Are you saying there are more sick kids now that 50 years ago?
Really?
If I were a selfish old girl, I would say “flu”, because you’d be on your backside for days and would need nurse’s care. But I love you, darling, so bend over. ;-*
Awwww....how sweet of you, my Love :-*
It has nothing to do with me, although you desperately want to make it that way. There are experts in vaccinations who have analyzed the data, understand the risks and benefits, and have set the schedule based on that expertise and knowledge. I agree with them. Dr. Sears, and you apparently, do not agree with the experts. Sears is not an expert. He just pretends to be one so he can sell books to unsuspecting and confused people. That places him pretty low on the pole. Why anyone listens to him is a mystery, but there they are. Whaddyagonnado?
Someone else chooses to drink raw milk so theyre stupid or nuts.
I don't care if you drink raw milk. Just don't try and tell me that it prevents disease or helps your immune system. Those are lies. There is no benefit to drinking raw milk vs. pasteurized milk. That being the case, why would you do so? I really don't care one way or another. Irrational behavior has always been a curiosity to me.
People who give raw milk to young children, with vulnerable and still developing immune systems, are taking unnecessary chances for no good reason. That makes them less than intelligent. It happens all the time and there is nothing I can do about it, and there is nothing I want to do about it -- other than pointing out their stupidity. I can't prevent stupidity nor do I think the government can. Pointing it out upsets you for some reason. Sorry. Any fool can be a parent, but you need a license to go fishing. Go figure.
Comments like yours leave no room for your position to not be the right answer.
Let's see....vaccinations create a herd immunity among society making everyone safer from diseases that used to savage the population. Doesn't sound controversial to me at all. Let's try again....there are no benefits to drinking raw milk vs. pasteurized milk so taking on that risk isn't rational. Again, not all that controversial. You see it that way, but that's only because you're being emotional.
Do you think the CDC and government in general are right all the time and generally care about each persons individual welfare? I dont.
The facts are what they are. You can either choose to accept them or deny them. Either way, I really don't care. If you had some information to refute the information from the CDC, you'd offer it. I disagree with the CDC, the FDA, the USDA, the NIH, the NAC, the IOM, the FBI, the CIA and many other government agencies all the time. But when they're right, I admit it. I don't bash them simply because they're government agencies. Sometime they're right. A rational person can admit it when they do happen to get it right, right?
The fact is, we could go back and forth all day with research that shows vaccines are completely safe and research that shows theyre not
You're making stuff up again. I never said vaccines were completely safe. No one else did either. You're the only one making that claim. I do remember saying that all medicines come with risks and benefits. You should be careful when erecting such large straw men, they could topple and crush you.
But I detest the if its good for one, its good for everyone attitude that so many people have towards vaccines and medicine.
Whatever. If you do take issue with what the experts are telling you don't you think you should base that decision on something other than the anti-science offered by a guy like Dr. Sears? I mean, it is your family we're talking about here.
immature immune system of a 2 month old should not be subjected to 8 vaccines in one visit (as the CDC schedule calls for) its their prerogative to weigh the risk/benefit and decide what they think is best.
Did you see the photo of the two month old suffering from tetanus in the article I linked? Click on a youtube video of a young child suffering from pertussis. If you're going to take that risk with your child, you should probably have something more than the advice of internet charlatans and book sellers to base your opinion on. The experts are lined up against your kind of thinking. But you go on believing you know more than they do. You will, unfortunately, always have plenty of company.
When truth doesn't conquer, ignorance prevails.
And you still didn’t answer the questions?
Just hate anyone else having freedom to do what you disagree with, eh?
Too tough for you? Here they are again:
So, which legitimate science are you talking about?
And how do you know it wasnt fraud?
And what are the stats on it? 100%? No?
Nothing is 100%, even in your vaulted science, that you characterize as being superior without any 100% stats backing you up.
It is a fact that at any time in the history of man, there is no such thing as knowing it all.
And Truth does Conquer, because the ultimate Truth is Jesus Christ.
“I am the Truth, the Way and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me.” Jesus
There are studies that show a benefit of raw milk over pasteurized. And there are studies that show that pasteurized milk is bad for you. As I said, when I did drink raw milk I got it from a trusted source that I know did appropriate testing, as everyone should do if they choose to drink it. All you seem to want to do is ridicule people that don’t drink pasteurized like you do.
The CDC can’t get the easy things right, how many times have they changed the Food Pyramid. Do you think it’s appropriate for every person to have 6 - 11 servings of grains every day? Some people can’t tolerate that much. One size does not fit all. There are also experts who have analyzed the data and say there are issues with vaccines. And it seems that there have actually been no studies on combining vaccines, just the individuals. I’ve never read Dr Sears book, so I don’t really know what he has to say. I’ve read some of Dr. Mercola, but have found you have to take some of what he says with a grain of salt. He does have products he wants to sell, but in this case I don’t see how it benefits him to warn people of the potential dangers of vaccines.
No, vaccines and herd immunity in general aren’t controversial. You keep saying that you never said that vaccines were completely safe, but you don’t seem to be willing to admit that not everyone should receive them. That’s when things become controversial. Have you seen the pictures of babies that are suffering from vaccine reactions? I’m not anti-vaccine, I do have issues with a 2 month old getting loaded up with 8 different vaccines at one appointment and other similar schedules at different ages.
I’m curious if you have been re-vaccinated? Otherwise you’re basically walking around unvaccinated and putting the population at risk. Bacterial vaccines in particular are effective for only a few years. So you, in fact, could be a pertussis carrier and spreading it around. Have you re-vaccinated? If not, why?
The vast hazards of vaccines is not seriously questioned by any honest authority.
There are a couple of reasons for that.
For one thing, some of that doctor's patients might be infants who have not been vaccinated yet because they are being seen for the first time. To an infant, contact with any unvaccinated person is a risk. That's because it takes the immune system about two weeks to "kick in" following a vaccination. The parents of that infant have no way to know if other children in the waiting room at the doctor's office have received their vaccines; a non-vaccinated child can have a potentially deadly disease and be contagious even if asymptomatic.
The other thing is that vaccines are not 100% effective. This can be because of individual responses to vaccines (some people just don't respond as well as others), or because the full vaccination course was not administered. Some people cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. So, for the child who is not protected despite vaccination or who cannot be vaccinated, exposure to an infected non-vaccinated child can be deadly.
From a public health stand-point, the goal is to vaccinate enough of the population to inhibit spread of disease. "Enough" depends on the disease itself, and can be from 80% to over 90%. As long as enough of the population has been vaccinated against a specific disease, the chance that a non-immune person will contract the disease and spread it to others is greatly decreased.
I had a flu shot last month. It caused a tiny, but transient, red spot and some minor swelling on my arm.
Thanks for posting those links.
I’d post a link showing kids struggling to breathe with whooping cough, but it is very painful to watch.
That is, if you don't mind taking the risk of contracting listeriosis, tuberculosis, brucellosis, E. coli O157:H7, rabies, and just about any other disease a cow can catch from wild animals. I'll stick with the pasteurized stuff, myself.
I read yesterday where someone pointed out that being exposed to a pathogen that you have been vaccinated against is like receiving a booster shot for that disease, since it will induce a new immune response. Also, I believe many assessments of immunity are based on the antibody count, but the immune system consists of more than the antibody system. Meaning that the antibody count can drop off drastically, but a person is still protected.
Any?
So in the entire developed world there is absolutely nobody "honest" who has looked into the dangers of vaccines in the past century???
Good thing you aren't prone to hyperbole, I don't think there's a vaccine for that yet.
“”And you still didnt answer the questions?””
He’s (or possibly she) been on here pretty much all day and still hasn’t answered any specific questions....He’s too busy trying to convince everyone of his superior intellect.
Thanks, I have seen this poster before.
He and his friends are great at slinging the dirt, but short on real dialog. It is amazing that they don’t seem to learn from it, or even attempt to alter their “tactics”.
Truly, “Pride goeth before the fall.”
Everyone has the right to refuse them.. I have never had a flu shot and have to BEAT my Doctor off with a stick yearly because he PUSHES It. Why is the govt pushing so many vaccines? As always.. BIG PHARMA.
Sure is a whole lot of pressure to get shots these days.. how did we live before kids were required to get 10 shots a year per visit.
I have to laugh at the sheeple who just BLINDLY think all vaccines are “Safe” because the same govt that lies to them on a daily basis, tells them so.. lol
And yes, I know some vaccines are safe, but what they want to run kids through today is flat out paranoia and insanity.
OH well.. I have always said, the police of the 21st century wont wear badges and carry guns, but wear white coats and carry stethoscopes.
