WYFF ^ | October 31, 2011

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -- The Spartanburg County Sheriff is known for speaking his mind, and at a news conference on Monday, he didn't hold back his anger and frustration after a woman was attacked in a park over the weekend.

I don't know the answer to that question, but South Carolina is one of a few states which recognize out-of-state permits, but only if the out-of-stater has a permit from his state of residency.

I'm not able to get a permit in my county in Kalifornia, so I can't carry in South Carolina despite having permits sufficient to carry in almost forty states.

For this reason, South Carolina was one of the states which I avoided visiting during my recent 12,000 mile tour of the U.S.

Too bad. Is it difficult to get a permit? Is he talking about a CC permit, or a permit just to purchase?

SC is a "Shall Issue" state, meaning the process is relatively simple. Fingerprints, background check, that sort of thing. The license covers CC for sure, I'm not certain on the specifics of open carry limitattions.

Good. What I really want to see, is CC without a permit. I’m hoping VA will lead the way.

He encouraged women to walk in groups, and he ended by saying again, "I want you to get a concealed weapons permit. Don't get Mace. Get a firearm."

And then he said, "I think I better stop before I get sanctioned."

Way too late.

The Gun Grabbers already have you in their sights (so to speak).

When I teach someone to shoot, I start with center mass. But as their competency improves I move them to head sized targeting, also. One low in the pelvis then a carefully placed one to the brain pan works best.

Must not have been much of a dog.

No one messed with my ex #1 when our Male Akita was walking her.

He was terrified of her even though he outweighed her by 25 lb.

I’m not sure I like the fact he said he’s concerned about getting sanctioned at the end of the article...

I think he needs to shed that concern and give the guy a medal for sayign the right things and encouraging women, and everyone for that matter to get a Concealed Carry Permit...

The last I looked, getting a SC permit is pretty straightforward. I think you may have to take a class, though.

Unfortunately, reciprocity is not as straightforward as “have a permit from your home state.” They don’t have reciprocity with GA, which stinks for me, as I travel to SC regularly.

My husband and I drove through Spartanburg County a little over a week ago. I can understand why Sheriff Wright is aggravated. Maybe it will get better after this announcement.

I thought “Spartanburg” sounded familiar...
I did some work there, and the little town is a suburb of Atlanta. I can see why this sheriff, in another state and county, is sick and tired of the Atlanta criminals preying on his constituents.

This is Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Though I can’t speak for the whole county, the parts we saw as we drove through were trashy looking. I saw gas advertised well below the going rate everywhere else, so I pulled in to top off. Turns out that rate was only available to those paying with an EBT card (welfare). All others had to pay more. IIRC, the going rate most places was about $3.19, welfare leeches were charged $2.79 there, and all others $3.34. It looked like 95% of the local population was on welfare, and trying to get the people driving through to pay for their discounts on gas. There were abandoned buildings all over the place, where businesses apparently just closed up shop and walked away.

Spartanburg is about 200 miles from Atlanta, it's approx. 70 miles west of Charlotte.

I shoot for the thoracic triangle all the time with three shot bursts fast. I have gotten this down so there is always one to two head shots and one to two to the chest no matter what gun I shoot. I always use ammmo which hits with a muzzle energy range from 500 to 1200 ft/lbs (9-mm +P+ to .44 Magnum) which has deep penetration and proven one shot stop effect on humans.

Sheriff: Time For Citizens To Arm Themselves

Good Sheriff! :-)

I don't think our sheriff will have to say that here. In the last election the two top candidates for sheriff competed to prove which one was the most supportive of the 2nd Amendment. The one who was slightly less gung ho won but that's OK. It was like having a vote on porter house or ribeye steaks for dinner.

Sheriff Chuck Wright is right! Liberal defense lawyers have pushed for laws that make winning cases for criminal easier. The incentive for them is more money AND easier cases...

If we can't have decent laws, we can at least have fewer criminals... Conceal carry helps with that...

“...I bet many of his comments would give progressives heart palpatations...”

Screw the “palpitations”. Go straight to “Coronary Infarction” and be done with them. There’s too many of them as it is. THEY caused the mess this country is in to begin with.
