Conservative voters don't like Mitt Romney because he seems insufficiently committed to their ideals, but reporters like that he offers them an opportunity to play psychologist.

For a politician, Dukakis was a class act.
Romney, supposedly the Republican most electable next November, is a recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable, he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate: Republican successes down the ticket will depend on the energies of the tea party and other conservatives, who will be deflated by a nominee whose blurry profile in caution communicates only calculated trimming. Republicans may have found their Michael Dukakis, a technocratic Massachusetts governor who takes his bearings from data ... Has conservatism come so far, surmounting so many obstacles, to settle, at a moment of economic crisis, for THIS?"
I thought it was the title for a divorcee.

Mitt does play it well...
I'd HATE to have to say "DUH!" here, so I'll merely point out that the LAST time, he couldn't even maintain a 'lead' over that staunch Republican CONSERVATIVE, John McCain.
Like what?
amen
Romney is going to have his tanking moment soon...
He would have gotten much more respect running properly as a Democrat.
LOL fooled me to...
Dukakis also blew the question about rape during the democrat debates. Don’t remember the exact wording but I think, Dukakis was asked a question about what would he do if his wife was the one being raped/killed...It was in reference to the death penalty I think...He came across as a block of ice and wouldn’t change his mind on the death penalty even if it was his family....The tank came after that I think..but he sunk quick in the way he answered the question....I wish I could remember it all in context...
Conservatives, who actually give politics some thought, don’t like Romney because of the principles he espoused in the past, and because of his facility for isolating or abandoning principles. Certain principles were brought to bear in the creation of Romneycare and in the strong advocacy of “a woman’s right to choose.” Yet Romneycare is quarantined in a special case as he says it’s inapplicable to a federal program; while the pro-abort position is simply abandoned with no explanation or insight offered.
To us, the man’s clearly a hypocrite and a liar, on the make for the office of president.
Then there’s the average citizen who does not give politics so much thought, and some give it none. When they don’t like Romney, I believe it’s a simple matter of noticing how bodysnatcherly serene and benevolent he appears, and how he smiles as if all’s well. ALL IS NOT WELL. Everybody knows it. Thus he strikes many people as condescending, phony, unctuous, and possibly a little weird.
“Theyve never played the game.
Mitt does play it well... “
He does? Is that why the only election he’s ever won was the 2002 Mass gov race in a year where there was a strong GOP tide nationally?
This guy’s been running for POTUS for 5 years and still can’t get over 25% in the polls. When the first votes are cast, I suspect this “inevitability” meme he’s been peddling will come crashing down pretty quick.
Sure, he’ll probably win New Hampshire, Michigan and Nevada but once we get to the South he’ll get wiped out like he did in 2008. No way a majority of southern Evangelicals and other conservatives are gonna vote for that plastic phony technocrat.
That Huntsman is a hater...
