No cheap seats for Cain, Gingrich 'Lincoln-Douglas-style' debate ($200 for general admission)

No television station has signed on to broadcast the “Lincoln-Douglas” debate between GOP presidential rivals Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich, and those hoping to attend the Nov. 5 debate will pay a steep price to see the drama unfold in-person.

General admission for the debate costs $200 – although the price includes a slice of “good ole apple pie,” according to the Texas Tea Party Patriots PAC, which is sponsoring the event.

Then there’s the “Patron Ticket,” which costs $500. Patron-level purchasers will get “prime seating” and admission to a “Nite Cap party after the debate,” as well as a chance to mingle with the candidates over drinks and hors d’oerves afterward.

Top-level donors will pay $1,000 for “the best seating in the house,” a special room at the Woodlands Resort in Houston for the Nite Cap party, and a “professional picture” taken with the candidates.

Students can get in for $150, but those tickets are sold out.

Gingrich has been a long-time proponent of the Lincoln-Douglas debate style, because it gives candidates more time to have a detailed policy discussion. Gingrich has repeatedly said that if he were the Republican nominee, he would challenge President Obama to seven three-hour Lincoln-Douglas style debates.

The debates typically have a time-keeper, not a moderator, although this TTPP debate will be moderated by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a Tea Party favorite.

One of the articles stated there were three defined domestic topics, and I think all were money-related. Cain can take Gingrich on monetary topics. He might even be better.

I think Cain can hold his own. They both seem to like one another. We will see who is the statesman, and who is the zinger. Gingrich’s worst trait is that he is a career politician., attached to the Establishment. Cain is no politician, to his immense credit. He comes to us as a practical man who knows how to fix things, and that, for heaven’s sake, is what matters most today!

This is a great idea! If no lamestreamers want to televise it, it could easily be shown on the net ala GBTV. I’d even pay for a download.

I have never understood why liberals have control over Republican primary debates. Now, we don’t need them. We have the technology!

I do live near enough to drive down there for it, but my hubby and I are celebrating our golden wedding anniversary in Dallas that night!

I wonder if he will make another appearance in my part of TX? I’d really like to see him in person.

I’d pay the $1000. Would be worth it.

I’d like to see all the top tier candidates do this in one fashion or another.

I could vote for a Gingrich/Cain Ticket.

Agreed, but Cain/Gingrich would be preferable.

Gingrich, with his political knowledge and experience, completes Cain. But the one with the lesser baggage needs to be at the top of the ticket--better contrast against Obama.

Also - IMHO Cain has the greater ability to convey the vision for the rescuing of America to a larger audience than Newt.

It's long past time for the candidates (Ds -and- Rs alike) to quit letting the alleged "journalists" control the debates, and let some true thinkers have at it!

This event may very well change the primary dynamic in a dramatic way. Americans are desperate for adult leadership who can calmly and rationally formulate and articulate detailed plans that are understandable to lead the nation back out of the Obama induced abyss.

Good! For SURE then no OWS/Code Pink type scumbags will be getting in there to disrupt matters. They could not pandhandle that much in 2 1/2 years! ;-)

I'd pay it (if I were close).

Churchill redux? I respect Cain and Gingrich, and would be ecstatic to have that team running the executive. But Churchill was in a category of his own, a lifetime of amazing preparation and profound giftedness for his extraordinary confrontation with the great evil of his time. Cain and Gingrich are creditable enough, but they have some dues to pay before being classed with Churchill. IMHO.
