It's a rare day when positive news surfaces from the frontlines of Iraq's post-occupation government--or from its troubled economy. However, a U.S. Iraq inspector general report that concluded this week that $6.6 billion in shrink-wrapped cash the U.S. government previously feared had gone missing in the chaotic early days of the Iraq occupation has in fact been safely accounted for.
"The mystery of $6 billion that seemed to go missing in the early days of the Iraq war has been resolved, according to a new report," CNN national security producer Charles Keyes reported Wednesday. "New evidence shows most of that money, $6.6 billion, did not go astray in that chaotic period, but ended up where it was supposed to be, under the control of the Iraqi government, according to a report from the office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction or SIGIR."

Gotta love creative accounting and reporting.
BJ Clinton had a magical mystery surplus that vanished after GW took office.
GW lost billions of dollars to Iraq, was bashed about it for years, and now the next Democrat’s administration FOUND it, all accounted for safe and sound!
If it has been accounted for, does that mean it has been used, or is still sitting, shrink wrapped, in some office in Baghdad? If it’s the latter, they obviously didn’t NEED it, so shouldn’t we demand that they give it back to us?
Considering they’re kicking our asses out of there, yes, we should take the money with us.

From Joseph Chamie, Research Director of Center for Migration Studies, as of 2006:
The countrys population in 1776 was 2.5 million (2,527,450).
The total number of births since 1776: 483.5 million (483,465,018)
The total number of immigrants since 1776: 72.1 million (72,105,369).
The total number of Americans deceased since 1776: 258.1 million (258,097,000).
The total number of Americans who have ever lived: 558.1 million (558,097,837).
About 54% of Americans who have ever lived were living in 2006 (2006 U.S. population of 300,000 divided by the number of Americans who have ever lived: 300,000/558,097,837 = 53.7%)

300 million people - still governed by 535 members of Congress/Senate. That is why the existence of 50 States is so appropriate. The Federal Government should be responsible for those powers enumerated in the Constitution - no more - no less.
Eliminate all the Agencies that are the cause of our fiscal crises; Education, Energy, Environment, Wildlife, Homeland Security, Land (grab) Management, Drug and Health, et.al.
Only National Defense, Immigration, State Dept. and Interstate Highways should be under the Federal purview.
State Governors could mediate anything else at annual conventions.
The federal government is a monster. I don’t care if they shut down the whole damn thing and turn the lights off. Just leave the Pentagon functioning.
That is 66 million 100 dollar bills (the largest denomination printed). Can you imaging the physical bulk of that much cash? Think truckload, shipping container full.
I don’t know that a half million dollars in 20’s would fit in a carry-on bag. I used to work where we kept it on pallets and moved it with a forklift, and the most we ever had on hand about 50 million.
Yep....honest....we found it....by the way....here’s my retirement papers...forward my last check to my private island.
Well, how about that?
The remarkable thing is not that it disappeared, but that it “returned” just as Bambi is dumping Iraq.
Think about it.
“New evidence shows most of that money, $6.6 billion, did not go astray in that chaotic period, but ended up where it was supposed to be, under the control of the Iraqi government..”
A distinction without a difference.
“If it has been accounted for, does that mean it has been used, or is still sitting, shrink wrapped, in some office in Baghdad? If its the latter, they obviously didnt NEED it, so shouldnt we demand that they give it back to us?”
And it should be paid directly to the US taxpayers and only to people who actually pay taxes.

Not to be nit-picky but that article says TONNES, as in metric.
That’s just over 400 tons (English unit = 2,000 lbs.).
But your point is well taken - that is a LOT of salad.
Thanks!
