HARTFORD, October 18, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.coom) - Several students at a Hartford high school expressed horror and left the auditorium when two male members of a city-funded school play shared a passionate kiss onstage on Friday. School officials said they opted against informing parents about the event ahead of time, saying that the students needed exposure to homosexuality, and hailed the chaotic reaction as a victory for raising the gay issue.
The kiss occurred during Hartford Public High Schools production of Zanna, Dont!, a play depicting a world in which homosexuality is normative and heterosexuals take up the role of outcasts.
The Hartford Courant reported that screams and loud voices and sounds of disgust came from the audience during the display of affection, while dozens of mostly male students left the auditorium. While some trickled back in, officials had to prevent many from leaving the school building.
School officials had told students that homosexual displays of affection would be featured in the play, and many asked to be excused. One school official cited by The Courant, nursing academy principal David Chambers, said that he had considered sending an opt-out letter to parents before changing his mind. The school reportedly received a number of phone calls from parents following the incident.
The play, available to students free of charge, was a joint effort between Connecticut gay youth group True Colors and a local youth leadership program, and was funded in part by the city of Hartford.
Chambers said that students needed to learn empathy towards homosexuals and exposure to things that would make them uncomfortable. Our kids are not there yet, he said. Chambers also suggested that the reaction of disgust was a good sign, indicating a release of students inner conflict about homosexuality.
Even though its kind of chaotic, kind of wild and crazy, I see it as very successful, he said, according to The Courant. Our kids never deal with this, they keep it inside, and thats that nervous energy. Thats why they walked out.
Adam Johnson, principal of Hartford Highs Law and Government Academy, agreed. This is as important of a topic to discuss as anything in math, anything in social studies, Johnson said. Im completely glad that we did it.
The Family Institute of Connecticut (FIC) condemned the scandal, and called for a protest of the schools decision, calling it an outrageous attack on parental rights.
FIC notes that a bill introduced earlier this year by Republican Sen. Kevin Witkos, which would have mandated that parents be allowed to opt out their children from sexuality instruction in schools, was never given a public hearing. We will fight for it again next year and every year until it is passed, said the group.
Same-sex marriage was imposed on Connecticut by the states Supreme Court in 2008, three years after granting all-but-marriage civil unions for homosexual couples.

Another reason to Homeschool :-(
Let’s pull his chain!
Actually, the Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish parents of the children in this school should do the protesting themselves and NOT sit back and wait for others to intervene.
Ahhhh, yes... yes, it does. ;-) ... and largely because male sexuality is so visually-oriented. We like women in bikinis for reasons entirely out of our control. At least that's what I tell my wife, who then politely asks me to stop drooling and put my tongue back in my mouth before she elbows me in the ribs.
And how many grade levels are they behind in reading and math at this school?
You’re a hoot, andy! I am guessing your ribs have taken quite the beating over the years. LOL!!
Sounds absolutely brainwashed.
The truth is that America used to have the best public schools in the world - because they were bounded by a dedication to learning, as enforced by a commitment to a common heritage and culture. Beginning with John Dewey, Progressives have destroyed all that, replacing education and knowledge with indoctrination and propaganda.
Frankly, this is so over the top I find it very hard to believe; appears to me this needs be vetted and verified.
You are correct. Guys are very visually-oriented. The attraction of watching two girls making out is based on "one pretty girl is good, two pretty girls are better".
This crap is being done in public schools?
Just another reason to home school.
I am guessing that forty really pretty girls... would simply give you chest pain. LOL!!
It hurts to laugh. ;-)
Nope! I disagree. These parents shouldn't be protesting. Protesting implies that reform is possible.
No! No! Instead, these parents should simply immediately and quietly withdraw their children. No diploma, certificate, credential, or scholarship of any kind is worth subjecting their children to this moral filth. They should then work mightily to see that all government schooling in this nation is abolished.
ALL of the socialist schools in this nation are godless in their worldview. There are NO “good” socialist government schools anywhere in this nation. Godlessness can not be reformed. And...Simply by attending children must think and reason godlessly just to cooperate in the classroom, read and understand the godless textbooks, and turn in assignments.
ALL of the government schools in this nation are socialist. Every one of them! Simply by attending children learn that the government has enormous police power to take money from a neighbor to fund this socialist single-payer program. They learn, simply by attending their socialist schools, that the government has the power of armed police to **force** citizens to use the socialist school program. Well!...Gee!...If government can give children tuition-free socialist schools, why not other socialist goodies?
Is there any organization out there, that you know of, with the express purpose of advocating the “depopulation” of public schools? Any that actively urge parents to consider removing their children from public schools? If not, it might be time to start one. We keep seeing the phrase “Another Reason to Homeschool.” Well, I think there are enough reasons to fill a good-size catalog.
But so far it seems that the response to events such as this one, is limited to angry letters to administrators. Persuasive and reasoned communication to the enablers (parents) might be more effective.
I just went to look at the reading and math scores at Hartford High. The school ranks 131 out of 139 high schools in Connecticut.
And they’re spending time on a play, not school work?
You of course have some good points. Luckily for everyone the gay agenda does not try to sell lipstick lesbians. They are not smart enough to do that. I am glad....my previous post was sarcastic because of your post.
I don't believe public schools that push acceptance of homosexuality are "practical." I think they're evil.
I did and its real.
I'm with you on every word -- except "quietly." Don't hide your light! :)
